Why can't I stop thinking about an L-Frame 41 Special conversion?

Greetings, All,

As I've mentioned here before, the .41 Magnum is my most favorite pistol caliber, bar none, and even though I own and love many other stellar calibers, when the stuff hits the rotating oscillator, I hope one of my trusty .41's is in my hand!

I own a 3" M657, and a compact Taurus M415, both of which I've shown here before. In fact, Jack and I have talked about these guns a bit in email, and that, too, has been posted here. But, for my money, the little Taurus is simply without peer, for what it offers, and the quality and price issues. If S&W offered anything like that, I would jump on it in a heartbeat, and probably purchase two of them!! I remember that Jack had problems with the one he purchased used, but I bought mine brand new and have not had a single problem (knock the hardwood between my ears!) to date!! It still shoots well, and is as tight as a drum. It's MUCH easier to carry, either open, or concealed, then my beloved 3" M657, and even though it's limited to 5 shots, I do not believe there is a finer compact .41 Mag on the market today!! This gun could easily and without any effort at all, handle the .41 Special, too. So, if someone is seeking something like this, I still recommend they check this wonderful little powerhouse out! I'll post my photos again, so you can all see, once again, how my two .41's compare to one another. As the OP stated that he was not interested in an N-Frame .41, I just included it as a comparison to the M415 Taurus. Just my thoughts, opinions, and experiences, and just as Jack had a less than happy specimen of the M415, others might, too. But, my own M415 has been just as reliable and good as I need it to be, and I trust it with my life. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc (.41 Fan and proud of it!)

.41 Special L-frame

It is a great conversion, and I'll soon have another in the works based on a 586 with a 5" barrel & Patridge blade with McGivern gold bead front sight.

The following is my first conversion and it's proven to be an excellent platform.
686 with Mountain Gun barrel installed
Rebore to .41 Special
"Blackpowder Chamfer" on cylinder
Shallow V rear Tritium Big Dot front
Spegel stocks
.41 Spl headstamp brass
Lobo Gunleather

I'm also a freak for all things .41 with many .41 Mags, a .41 GNR & two .414 SuperMags.

My current .41 Mag favorite is the Nightguard....

Anything can be rationalized. I enjoy .41 Specials on an L-frame platform.

MadBadger,

It's guns like that mountain barreled 686 in 41 Special the won't let me drop it. I love it. Who did the work on it?

A few posters here understand. My 686s in 357 mag will do what ever I need them to do. Need and want are different things.

But an N-frame doesn't really scratch that itch for me. I like the size of the L-frame. And 41 Special is the largest caliber you can fit 6 shots in an L-frame. I imagine It has ballistics similar to a 44 Special, but it fits in the smaller cylinder.

An N-frame may not be that much bigger than an L-frame, but the L-frame is already nearing the max of what is comfortable for my to carry concealed.

I need to find a suitable gun for the conversion and someone to do the work. This may take me a while...

L-Frame .41 Special Conversion

Bowen Classic Arms.

The turn-around was very reasonable, the discussions with Mr. Bowen enjoyable and the work is flawless.

MadB that is a GREAT looking gun. More pics would really be appreciated!!

I have three of the Taurus .41 Trackers and they are fine shooters. No they don't have the wonderful actions of the Smiths but they get the job done.

Top gun is a rare 6" titanium. They only brought them into the country for a short time before they were discontinued. The second gun is also titanium and the bottom one stainless..

Can't remember if this was 15 or 20 yards...both targets double action. The one on the left was slow fire and and the one on the right rapid...

.41 Special brass really helps with these guns because like the Freedom Arms 97s the cylinders are shorter than everything else....

One day I hope to find a titaium snubbie..after having passed up two...
