In many firearms manuals, including my S&W M&P 15-22 it states that you should not mix ammo.

Does anyone know why it's a bad idea to mix ammo?

The accuracy of mismatched ammo is usually unsatisfactory. It does you very little good to practice or even plink with ammo that won't be able to reliably hit your target.

Well those reasons, and they come out to your house and rough you up but good if you do. ;)

Mixing ammo can make it really annoying when you randomly get to the brand or style that won't cycle in your particular weapon. .22s can be especially picky on which brand they fire reliably.

I plan on only using quality ammo from this point on. I think I learned my lesson with all the ftf, fte's with Remington ammo.

If I ever pick up a cheap bolt action rifle, I imagine it would be less picky about it, but I think we've all seen that semi-auto's definately prefer better ammo.

I've not had any trouble with shooting the Remington ammo so far, it's all been plated round nose and not the lead tipped stuff. If you stick to using plated ammo you should be fine, so long as you have loaded your magazine properly.

Mine feeds the CCI & Winchester Super X hollow points as well as any plated round nose ammo, and accuracy seems to be rather consistent.

My plan is to buy 5000 rounds of plated round nose CCI or Winchester Super X RN, the Winchester is 1300FPS ammo that comes in a red slider top 100 round box (like the CCI 100 round box). That will keep me busy for awhile! ;)
