You might be onto something...Never visited Vermont and frankly don't run into all that many people from there probably because they all stay home. I like this town (Spokane, WA) and the area, Winters are what they are and we may be in for a dandy this year, I look forward to Spring and Fall and the time in between.

Yup, they sure do. Notice that in the top 5 list in this thread, 4 of the 5 have some of the most lax gun laws in the country. So much for the gun laws equals safety theory.

I have been to Vermont and love it there. If it were my home I would never leave. So, why don't I live (move) there?

My family came to America in 1894. The first to die was in 1907, and our family bought a 16 grave plot in the local cemetery. My family tended these graves for 117 years now. With FAMILY being important to us, that's a reason not to move.

Additionally, we don't have floods here, tornadoes or Hurricanes. Although the state leans liberal, everyone around us is a strong conservative.

The township right next to us has been listed as the safest town in America for many years now. So, fear is not an issue.

We get a bad rap for snow and cold, but its really not so. The main snow comes 30 miles south of us (where the ski resorts are), and compared to North Dakota and Minnesota we are quite mild.

People kick and scream if their job transfers them to Buffalo, NY. But the fact is that once they are here they won't want to leave.

Flame on.....I gave up opportunities to move to XX, YY and ZZ. I guess I'll just die here and be happy in the meantime.

I've been there , it's beautiful . My father in law was born in Derby Line which I've been told was split between the US & Canada . We were on vacation last year in Rutland , or rather near there . Being a Fl cracker , I don't know if I could handle the winters . But it is a beautiful to visit .

Born in Texas, had a brief 8 year sojourn in Colorado, plan to die in Texas (hopefully not too soon)

My state came in at #47. Like most places if you avoid certain cities or select areas and people within those cities crime won't have a direct effect on you.
