If there is not a law prohibiting the police and the coroner from talking about very personal family matters, there should be.

Cause of death must be established by coroner, and I believe is public record. RW's cause of death was asphyxia, do the math on how he asphyxiated... Plus, there tends to be a different standard for people that are "in the public eye."

I think the Coroner should be required to report "Homicide" or "Non-Homicide".

After that it's need to know and only upon a Court Order.

Actually, putting the cause of death in public record protects us all from the return of abuses that have happened in the past. I'm sure many don't want to know because suicide was involved and they find it a distasteful subject. Sorry, but that comes as a price of the protection we gain by disclosure.

Didn't do Michael Jackson any good. But I do see your point and with celebrities if there is too little info then the wild speculation will start and that could end up being worse than knowing the truth although there is a limit to how detailed and graphic the news reports need to be.

My niece had a bad flash back when she heard this cause of death. Her husband my nephew had done this earlier this year. In my opinion we may as wellgo ahead a say it. Get done an work to get thru it. Niece has done so very well I very proud of her. It makes me sad that these people are great and have so much to offer but are hurting so bad. Depression is a horrible thing to have to deal with. It raises it's ugly face in horrible ways.

If a celeb hangs himself with a belt, I want it known. It says something about him and also says that he didn't commit suicide by gun, which the media might otherwise infer.

I was not a fan of Robin Williams. I knew about his addictions, and didn't admire him. And I thought he was 'WAY too hyper.

The media admires such men and eulogizes them far beyond what they deserve, while virtually ignoring more worthy people. They treat rock and hip-hop singers like gods.

I'm mad tonight that things couldn't have gone better for him and I'm mad that his death and the manner of it upset a friend who has some depression issues, herself. She attempted suicide a few years ago, via pills, but was saved and her children and faith in Christ are now sustaining her.

But I don't like the way the media handles such news, glorifying celebs who have deep problems and ignores good people. Charlton Heston deserved better than they gave him, and the Arness brothers were better entertainment examples than Robin Williams, Michael Jackson, or Phillip Seymour Hoffmann.

I wonder what they'll say about Lauren Bacall.

It's not just celebrities. Look up "Hillborough Disaster" and the "Marchioness Disaster" if you want to see abuse of process regarding recording death. The old "Coroners' Rules" in the UK were a travesty in a developed nation.

The Media ghouls are simply having another fully predictable feeding frenzy. The more high-profile the victim and the "juicer" their flaws, the better to their tastes. It gives the Media much more to yap about on an otherwise slow day, and that means a larger audience, which after all is their only real goal.

A celebrity with fewer flaws wouldn't get this kind of attention, as they would have difficulty bringing in experts to dissect them to lay out their shortcomings and problems for all to see.

I wasn't a fan either. I thought the guy was way over the top nuts. Funny how folks who never saw more than 2 or 3 of his movies, if that, are suddenly great admirers of his body of work.

Drug problems, booze problems, money problems, depression problems, health problems. All very sad. He preached to us a lot in his movies, but maybe he wasn't the best guy to be preaching to anyone.

Still very sad and I feel for the family. I hope he finds the peace he apparently couldn't find in life.

I think it's better that the coroner or police dept. give the basic
details on how someone the public is interested in died. Other wise
people around the edges of the scene are going to give the story,
and likely for money. I would rather someone with the true details
give them in a respectful way. My two cents.

All I need to know is how he made us all laugh.
