Yep, the range of folks who own firearms are a wide and varied bunch (understandably).
The hunter or sporting clays shooters may even question why someone would want (or need) to own a handgun.
The CASS shooter may see no need for 'more modern' firearms.
The guy who owns more AR15 configurations than I own shoes, boots & sandals, and thinks only people who have a AR in their "arsenal" are serious about personal protection.
The leisure/target range shooter may not see the need for more than a .22LR, at all.
The black powder shooters may still think that brass-cased cartridges are a passing fad.
When I was writing that previous comment in the first post, however, it was the sort of fervent RTKBA proponent I was thinking about, the guy who thinks that a gun has to accompany EVERYONE throughout their every waking moment, no matter their activities or location.
You know, the folks who take the idea of being lawfully armed and morph it to their own ends, thinking they're the only armed citizens who embody the TRUE BELIEF of the Founding Fathers, and that anyone who disagrees is somehow "less prepared", "lacks the right mindset", "Isn't serious about defending themselves", "Is an enemy of CCW rights", and other annoying examples of fanatical proselytizing, ad naseum.
Kind of like trying to politely discuss child-rearing practices, politics, organized religions and/or spiritual practices, etc. Folks aren't always going to reach a common consensus.
Doesn't mean I ought to be expected to have to justify myself at any given moment.
It's the "you're either with us, or against us" polarizing mentalities, the extreme polarization of "beliefs" ... versus common sense, prudent thinking and some allowable consideration of what actually constitutes appropriate actions under various conditions, for various people ... that makes me increasingly disinclined to get sucked into every Tom, Dick & Harry's idea of "earnest & reality-based" conversations.
Too easy to tune out the static and enjoy life, you know?
