Why don't you see many DIY Revolver Grips

At one time Herrett would sell a set of rough cut stocks routed out to fit a S&W or Ruger frame and you could cut, shape and sand it to fit. I have a large paw and did this a couple of times. Don't know if they still offer those, a phone call might be in order if you are interested.

A member here.... "Smitholdtimer", has several sets of blanks that are pre inletted for square butt K frames. Not sure, but they may also fit L frames. Nice black walnut and the hardware is already in them.

My first attempt for my Mod 27-2 : a pair of grips from a scrap walnut block, that I sawed in two parts.
I milled the inner cuttings with my press drill, using the genuine grips as a template to take the measures.
Made a little bedding with bi-composant epoxy wood putty, to fit perfectly the frame.
And used Rivkle blind rivet nuts to make the attachment.

It's not a Masterpiece, but I learned a lot !

Made a big mistake on the right panel, on the upper part, that I rounded too much, and not in the right sense ...

The other side is better made, and rounded correctly to make a support for the thumb while shooting, and is "speedloader compliant" .

Ready to make Banana grips for my Mod 13, now , with those gorgeous Cocobolo panels !

I opened this thread and read a few down and saw post # 13 from my old buddy "One-Eye-Joe" and I got excited until I saw the post date... Haven't heard from him in well over a year and fear the worst. Joe was/is a great guy that I fear has past on... but-on to a much-much-better place. God Bless you Joe!

I have never created a set from scratch. I took a POOR Herrett set of checkered square butt, {not the ones in the pic} and converted them to smooth round butt. I like 'em! Bob

I've used the glass-bed method to re-fit the very poor Ruger Bisley factory grips to my guns.... This allows me to mix and match grips that are somewhat 'close' to fitting a gun and then 're-position' them to a 'closer' fit.

I've tried making my own, but never really happy with the outside contours compared to the amount of work... Maybe try again when I get the well-hidden roundtuit.
