Why I Always Carry ** UPDATES in Post 17 **

I live in a very safe state (Idaho) and outside a nice city but a few years ago a man broke into a home down the street with a young family inside and the grandma was upstairs and called the police. The police came and treated it like a hostage situation and the man killed everyone and then set the home on fire. The only survivor the night was the grandma but she died in the burn unit in Salt Lake City a few days later. As I write this I have a pistol on my right hip inside my home. I mow the lawn with it. I have it on if going to the mailbox. I also feel I have spent all this money on firearms and spent all this time training to use a firearm correctly and to not be armed would be foolish.

I feel the same way. I carry at home everyday much less when I go out to mingle with John Q Public.

No respect for the elderly or disabled/injured, prime targets and not satisfied with just robbing the perps will maim and murder for the sport of it. First line of defense is locked doors/windows and have access to reliable firearms at all times. Don't kid yourself you will not match physically a teen twenties male in strength especially if they are on drugs. Like the American Express card don't leave home without it.

These cowardly punks prey on the elderly, we have money, nice cars, etc and should be an easy target. They're not going to attack a Cherry Point Marine. I carry in my home every day. Carry at the store, in church too. Went to our farm today to chip scrub brush. My son had his Ruger Mk .22 Hunter and I had my .380. I don't think I could run that fast or at all at 71. Btw, we also carry decent knives. A sharp knife is always loaded.

Having faced two men at midnight that stated give us your wallet or we are going to kill you. It was nice to have a legal short 12 gage shotgun (they could not see) to change their minds when I racked a load of 00buck into the chamber.

Since no one asked, I'd mention that when you need a firearm, nothing else is likely to work as efficiently. What's hard is ensuring that THIS SPECIFIC incident that you're involved with really requires a firearm. In other words, is your firearm really needed, or are you locking yourself into that response because you have a firearm.

I have heard quite a few people say they would not want to carry a gun as they would be prone to use it. That type surely should not carry a gun. I over my lifetime and different professions am the opposite; if I carry a gun I am far less likely to use it unless there is no other course of action. Perhaps because I have seen the results.

The only time that two bad guys are going to hear me rack the slide is when one just got shot and the other one is about to be.

A safety on a sg is a lot quicker and more efficient way to get it ready for action than racking a slide. You need 2 hands to rack a slide but one finger or thumb, depending on the model, to snick off a safety on a loaded gun.
