WHY I Carry A Gun In My Home

All hinges and strike plates on entry doors must have 3 or 4 inch screws going through the jamb and into structure. Of course you need a beefy door for this to be effective, many new doors are steel but old school good quality wood door is pretty tough to kick in. Forget about fiberglass or cheap wood doors.

Solid core doors front and back (solid bedroom doors are not really all that critical - if you have to flee to a bedroom you ought to have a gun there), AND THAT TOOL that Rastoff posted! They are inexpensive and WILL SLOW DOWN any attacker. The door might yield eventually but by then, presumably, except for those of us with cute little 5 year olds bouncing around, we'll be ready.

I'm never without a gun on me in the house or near me, or both.

Is my neighborhood safe? Sure. Totally? Impossible.

Always carry in the house. All home invasions happen 100% at home. I don't want to be a victim. So I carry mine with me always and my wife has a 1911 next to her as well.

Once you have the right door, this is a marvelous tool:

I've seen these, but not where the floor is carpeted. Will they still work in that case?

Yes. They will work on carpeted or wood floors. Just make sure to give the bottom a good kick at the heel of the rubber boot. That snugs the brace up properly. ;)

Something rotten in Denmark about that video. Gun in hand upon first going to the door. Camera already rolling and appears to be set on a tripod. Either he antagonized the perp and baited him to bust the door down or its a fake. Too coincidental, something just ain't right.

Now,what do you think might have happen if no firearm had been present?Odds are this will happen to very few,but what if it does happen? Not worth betting your life on.In today's world it is not very wise to advertise the fact you might have firearms which can make you a target.More valuable to some than money.Eternal vigilance is needed.

On Thursday morning 6th District Court Judge Robert Naftz sentenced Twain Thomas, 54, to a five-year fixed sentence in the state penitentiary, and 10 years indeterminate on several counts of aggravated assault and attempted murder in the second degree.

On Feb. 22, police were called to the 200 block of South Garfield, where Thomas had been threatening neighbors that apartment complex with a machete.

When Thomas broke into the downstairs apartment of James Cvengros and his girlfriend Kaila Gearhart, Cvengros shot Thomas.

Cvengros' action was ruled as self-defense.

Cvengros had a camera rolling to document the commotion after seeing glass flying from the upstairs apartment onto the cars parked below. He said once he heard unusually concerning noises coming from the apartment upstairs, he started documenting the commotion using his digital camera, not realizing that camera would soon serve as a witness to what was about to take place in his apartment.

I sort of thought the video was real but the article clinches it. I think the first door open was to check what was happening. I also thought the two principals knew each other. Excellent example.

Some time ago I went with a co-worker to visit his sister who lived in an apartment in NYC. She had 3-4 door braces that had anchor sockets in the floor.

Since then I have noticed them in movies that include NYC apartments. Nice town to visit but not good to live there unless you are very rich.

[Our company had a contract with the government in a New Jersey facility and we went there every other month. We usually had the option of spending the weekend in NYC, so we did.]

Not in my vicinity....

Lot's of machete wielding maniacs where you live?

Not in my vicinity, but they come from outside and find your house. Whatever they wield is usually effective enough to render you and your family helpless and kill you.

Crack, bath salts and a few other 'products' can easily cause ______ wielding perps to crash in your door.

What did he wear....

Elmer Keith always followed the practice that if his pants were on, he was wearing his Model 29.

According to a friend of mine who actually visited Elmer in his home, it was true. When Elmer answered the door, he WAS in fact wearing his Model 29.

What did Elmer Keith wear when his pants WEREN'T on??

If you listen closely to the audio the "homeowner" references a conversation he had at some earlier point with the machete wielder and states "I told you I have no problem with you".

Clearly they were at least acquainted
