Why is it that people don't hear their own dogs barking most of the night?

How can they NOT hear the constant barking when the dog is right there just outside the door in the yard? Are they really that hard of hearing? Do they have the tv turned up so loud that it drowns out the barking, or do they have some special powers that allow them to ignore the noise, powers that I don't seem to have...

No, bless their hearts, they are just inconsiderate, stupid, inbread, low moraled, ungodly, a-- h----, that need their teeth knocked out.

Well, in the last two cases (one on either side) it must have been due to living next door to me?

Beat me to it, except I would have said, "the same reason they don't seem to hear their brats whining and wailing in public places".

I thought I was the only one with neighbors like that...both with the kids and the dogs.

About the only things you don't have to pass a test or have a license for - owning animals or having kids. That explains quite a bit to me.

almost 10 years ago, at 1 am the neighbors dog kept barking, i could not sleep,, took the .41 mag out too the back yard, dumped 6 rounds, the neighbor must have got the idea, that it was a good time to bring the dog inside, never heard it again,,,live in a small sub division in the county

I had this exact problem a few years back. Finally got mad enough to go next door at 1:00 a.m. and ring their door bell and tell the guy to take care of his dog. If I am going to be up, they are going to be up! That solved the problem.

I get their phone number and call them. Even if they don't hear their damn dog, they do answer the phone !!

Been there.Called them, called the police, promised the owner a court date as the PD suggested. Two weeks later my house was robbed.
Coincidence?...for a house that is occupied 99.9% of the time.
This is not a poor area.Neighbor's house is 1.5 mil with taxes of 30k. Unfortunately for me, he's one of those 24 year old rappers with his ex-con Dad and posse living there.

In our town we have a 10:00 PM noise ordinance, and I just love to enforce it when one of my neighbors lets his mutt bark all night. In this town you can call the police and they will(gladly)tell the perp to shut the mutt up,and the perp can't find out from the police who called the cops on them. This also worked on a neighbor who held "pot"parties for teenagers, another neighbor called the police on him when she could smell the stuff coming for his garage.Check with your police about noise troubles, you may more rights than you think.

I had that with one of my neighbors.I called the guy at 4 inthe morning and barked into his phone until he hung up. He took the hint.

Maybe because they're low-down, inconsiderate, mouth-breathing morons?

About the only think I wish the county would address and the one thing they NEVER will. Everybody's "got rights", you know...

I have a neighbor about 100 yards over whose dogs run free. My youngest daughter (who wants to be a Zoologist) takes in stray and unwanted cats and finds homes for them. (16 last year, her best year ever. )

Anyway the dogs found out they could chase off the cats and eat their food. I talked to her about this 3 or 4 times. Then they chased one into the road where it got hit and killed. I wasted my breath again but now I'm mad, I hate to see my girls cry. The next day when the dogs came I let off all 5 rounds from my J frame 357 into the sand bank.

The dogs are on a leash now.

Had TWO neighbors like that double team us front and back of the house.

I called them first, they were recalcitrant Alpha Hotels, so I moved to stage two.

Police and animal control were called to no avail. Seems you can pay taxes for services, but you can't get services.

So... I got their phone numbers and when the dogs barked outside by my bedroom window at 3a, I called them. I'm awake, they're awake. The chutzpah of it was, they said I was harassing THEM!

They were committed leftists and in their all inclusive ways thought nothing of their neighbors and only of themselves.

Ultimately I beat 'em down by getting all the neighbors united against these houses. We all were harmed by the constant barking and I seized on the momentum to ostracize these cretins.

When they needed things done for their homes like tree trimming on property lines, the neighbors told 'em to piss off and told 'em why.

One moved, the other had animal control destroy the dog when it bit someone. Poor dog was neglected and barked from loneliness. Bastards!

My heart broke for that dog.

Yeah - the dogs are only doing what comes naturally - the people are the problem.

Some people should not breed, vote, own guns, drive, speak in public or own pets ( did I miss anything ?

They claim the dogs are "livestock guardian dogs" and they bark when they sense trouble or threat to the "livestock" (one goat and three chickens).

I'm well familiar with guardian dogs and their importance to keeping your livestock safe. But they seem to have missed a key concept here, as there must be a lot of trouble over there with as much as the dog barks, during the day and most frequently between about 8pm and 11pm. Maybe it is a different kind of livestock guardian dog where you are supposed to respond when the dog doesn't bark.

Outside of any city limits, unincorporated part of the county, zoned rural. I get a chuckle every time someone tells me they are going to move from suburbia to the country for some peace and quit and lower crimes rates...
