Why is my SW99 so maligned?????

The SW99 is a great pistol. My 99 is my carry pistol and is accurate and reliable.

i really wonder sometimes about complaints of hard recoil.

I have found recoil to be a matter of practice. Once you learn the gun, it is no longer an issue.
