Why join? - A curiosity.

I check in every day to see Snubby drink a beer and smoke a stogie. Wait...is that the correct spelling for stogie?

And to catch a sardonic quip from Rusty. Some day I may even learn what sardonic means.

Or to follow the hockey playoffs with Labworm...as the Blues lose in the playoffs again...and again...and again...and...never mind.

Or to provide some support to other forum friends that are hard against it.

I can read about information anywhere, but I will not find it with this kind of interaction and entertainment. Joining allows access to forum resources that enable members more opportunity to interact. I originally joined to find out more about a Model 19. Since that date years ago, I have found more value in being a part of this forum than just the value of a revolver...as long as I stay away from jokes about a certain topic that gets immediate attention from the boss silverback.

I don't over analyze it. I generally don't possess the faculties to do so. After all, I'm the guy balancing a golf ball on his head.
That's the thing, it's like hanging out with the guys (and gals).
Talking guns, knives, leather, booze, cigars, telling jokes and laughing at jokes.

When I hit 10,000 posts of mindless blithering, I had a karma for a J frame snubby holster.
I'm planning on a 20,000 posts of insipid blathering K frame holster karma.
Might be a bit late on that one, got some stuff to catch up on first.

Well now that's interesting, I'm at the top of the list.
Guess that means I just don't have much of a life.

:D To borrow a great quote and slightly change it from the better actor in the better version of: True Grit. "Fill yer hands with ceegars you son of a gun, cause two old empty boxes are on the way to a new owner.":D

When I traded for that Beretta Model 70s, I did join the Beretta Forum.
I was looking for magazines, info on where to get some, etc,
Success! I'm all mag-ed up!
I have 7.
So now I'm an non active Beretta guy.

I never joined that forum but--me too. My Nephew has my Baretta-which is about 30 miles from me.:D He's placed at least 500 rounds through it, me not one yet.:(

I joined because my wife loves it when I tell her funny jokes that are mostly 'clean'. I get about one good joke a day from this site. .... :-)

Oh, and the fact that I have owned S&Ws for more than 56 yrs. and have worked on them for about the same amount of time, but the more experienced contributors to this site continually are teaching me something I didn't learn in those 56 years. I really like that. .....

There are 186,043 members of this forum. 53,296 of them have only made one post and 75,532 have never posted at all. That's 69% of the membership that either never or hardly ever participates.

some of us.....are just shy.....

I have seen members that joined around 2003 with only a couple hundred posts to their credit.Apparently they have more of a Life than I do.

Quality outranks quantity every time whether you are entertaining or educating.

I joined in 2003. I've already said every intelligent thing I know several years ago.

Thought I would reply to this though.

#1 reason why people join, and it appears they never post after the first few times....

Language....you think you are on a gun forum (full of adult male and female), yet you cant even say the nice version of "dog poo"....I dont even mean the word that starts with "S"....Im talking about the one that starts with "C" and ends in "p".

....that is why I may not stay long...this site has a Communist "feel" to it.

I've already posted about this post, but I have to say Snubby, I can't help but laugh out loud every time I see it and read the response.
Thank you!

We like it that way. Plenty of other places to engage in keyboard commando arguments . . .

Why would you feel it necessary to use those terms? After all, this isn't the Taurus forum. :p

I wonder what the numbers are were we have readers only who don't join?
They stick there big toe in the water to check the temperature but won't commit. I'll bet it's larger numbers than we think. I think we call them lurkers?

I never owned a S&W revolver till about four years ago. Over owned guns since '73. Just never a smith. Well I wanted a 22 revolver for the grandson. The k22 really showed me the quality of the s&w guns.

I did buy a taurus m94 22lr, 6" barrel for the misses. It's been a good revolver so far.

Understood, but understand that it's a tightly run ship here for reasons that should be obvious if you spend any time elsewhere.
Yes, it may feel constraining at times but in time, it actually gets you talking as it used to be in civil society.
I know, I know, that's old school and not how it's done anymore.
That's the point. It actually steers a person towards the subject at hand without distractions.
Basically, it just keeps things civil, and family friendly. That's the way the owner wants it and the way we've come to like it.
Do we get censored and dinged? Yes, we do. But, we keep learning and coming back like lemmings.
It's worth it. You will find that the answer to your guide rod CRUD is here, along with much more.
It's a great site and I encourage you to hang in there and see for yourself.
Thanks for your service Sailor
BTW, I didn't know the Coasties had a "Tank Legacy"??

Well, I joined 7 years ago. Looking for that famous definition of a "38 S & W Special CTG". After 7 years, I have obtained a world of information on the famous 38 S & W Special on both how to make hand loads and all the different models that have been produce for 150 years under the S & W label. Somehow I am still here, searching for the hidden meaning of CTG after all these years. Why has this been written on the side of so many firearms? Are the people "up east" trying to tell us something? So many unanswered questions. I will continue to lurk here in the search for the true meaning of "CTG" that appears on so many of these firearms I see and inspect at LGS, gun shows, pawn shops, etc. I thing it means "Ca-not get sufficient" number of these guns, but that is just a crazy theory I have developed after lurking here for the past seven years. Who knows why I joined? What is the true meaning of CTG written on the side of so many of these beautiful guns?

as for info/ learning curve, 1 of the best forums I belong to. good people and info. and I learn something new every time I long on. everyone have a good week.

...did you know that you cannot close your account?...once you join here you are here for the duration...I assume it keeps the membership numbers high for advertising purposes...you can abandon your account if you want...or you can be banned...but your account will live on...I know of one member that has been permanently banned...and his account lives on...he just can't use it...
