Why no 2WD Ford F150s to be found?

Last week I went looking for a replacment pickup. Not sure it is really time - 92 Dakota still runs fine - just getting tired of it.

Found several nice F150s, BUT every one was 4WD.

I did not want 4WD. The few times I got a truck stuck 4WD would not have helped. I do NOT tow HEAVY loads to need the extra traction.

Remember years ago a friend had EXPENSIVE problems with the 4WD parts in his pickup.

Have the factories really cured the expensive problems and made 4Wd that is nearly problem free?

That is my rant for the day.

For what it's worth, I have a 4WD F-150 2009 with zero problems. That being said, dealers stock what most people want, so what your looking for is like wanting crank windows or no AC. Tough to find. Good luck, and thanks for buying American.

more parts is still more failure points.
I think what your looking at is a product of two fronts.
Gas prices have folks trying to adhere to the P word ... practical.
rear drivers use a little less go juice as a result they are off the lots a little faster these days.
the other front is the history of the trucks general evolution.
in the 80's a truck wasn't worth having unless it was 4 wheel drive. By the 90's the industry responded by making nearly all of em 4 wheel drive. It still mostly remains this way.
about the only sure fire way I can think of around the issue is to order one in new from the dealer, exactly the way you want it.

Over the last 15 years I have owned or leased 5 Ford F-150 trucks. never had a problem with the 4 wheel drive. I like the shift on the fly for 4 high. I have 2013 lariat with 4 wheel drive and traction control and anti sway and electronic locking rear differenal to get positive track. I tow a travel trailer and live in snow country so I want the 4 wheel drive and the other extra's. I did have a 2 wheel drive for a short time ; I had to order it and the dealer, It was a F150 Heritage addition, a real work truck.

I bought a 2006 XLT in 2008. It is 2WD. I had had 4WD in the past and rarely used it. Thst is why I got the 2WD this time.

About ten years ago when i wanted a 4WD vehicle, there were few to be found in this town. I assume that the manufacturers distribute 2WD and 4WD trucks based on previous sales. If everybody else around you buys 4WD, that might be why there are few 2WD trucks at the stealership.

Five years ago I was truck shopping and looked at Ford first. I've always drove Ford trucks. '62 '64 '79.

I wanted a single cab short bed 2WD with a V8. No luck. They didn't make one that I know of.

I wound up buying a '04 GMC. Nice truck but given the chance I would have bought the Ford.

What were they thinking? This is Fl. and we don't need FWD for the most part. I just wanted a fun street truck and GM had what I wanted.

BTW I didn't want a Lightning.

I have owned trucks all my life and never did own a 4x4 until 2005 and bought a super duty 4x4 and bought a 2008 f150 and it is 4x4 also. I have not had any trouble with either one. My beater that I drive all the time around town is 2wd. Mostly what the manufacturers are offering is based on what sells the best. There are some 2 wd f150's on the lots here but not very many. Don't see many 8' bed lengths anymore except for the duallys either. I guess not much demand for them anymore. When it comes time to trade or sell the truck, the 4x4 will bring more money. Of course it costs more in the initial purchase also so I guess its a wash.

I have has 4WD vehicles since 1985 (Navigators, Jeeps, Escalades, and a Buick) never had 1 single issue. I now have 99,000 on the Escalade with ZERO problems. A lemon shows up every once in a while no matter which brand you buy. I would not hesitate to go for the 4WD.

Go to ebay motors and do a search. I found over 300 within 150 miles of Louisville.

Way back in '04, I wanted a F-150, couldn't find one for under 32 grand. By accident, I came across 4 identical F-250 Superduty's except for color. They were the Lariat version, and all at the same price, $24,700. Dealer said they had more trouble moving the 250's, hence the big markdown, maybe something you want to look into. I get 19 on the freeway w/3:73 gears, not one visit to the dealer in 9 years except for required warranty stuff.

BTW sticker price32,500. Paid 26,500w/ factory bed liner, but had to accept carpet- normal STX has the rubber floor mat. Step rails included. I like the suicide rear doors, too.

Why don't they let you order one with a single cab? It's not like there'd a problem putting one together.

Last winter I was looking for a replacement for my 2002 Ranger and decided I wanted a F150, 2wd, V6. All the dealers I talked to said they didn't buy 2wd new because their customers wanted 4wd and when they came in on trade the usually went to auction for the same reason. I left my number with several dealers and one called me with a 2007 F150 2wd v6 that had just came in on trade, the empty beer cans under the seat were still cold. Had 27K miles and they only wanted $11K. Took them three days to clean it up and put new tires and brakes on it but it runs fine. They are out there if you don't give up the search.

Come to Hawaii. We have lots of 2 wheelers here.

We also have a fair amount of 4 x 4s too.

Wife has a 2010 Toyota Tundra 2 wheel drive with limited slip and towing package.

Personally we do not see a Need for a 4 x 4 here in Hawaii unless you have
a farm or ranch.

Now you mention it, those short cabs might have that funny six thingo in it.
They tried to sell me one of those, (they have the tall rear end that I wanted) but I didn't want the ecoboost turbo six, no thanks.
I wanted the extra jump seats, theyre roomier than in the older one, and that little door makes all the difference. Electric steering is a real trip too.

Hey we got sugar sand. Used to use four wheel at Daytona and Cocoa. Lots of State and National Forests, swamps and lowlands you need 4x4. Of course you need to do a lift kit and put monster mudders on them also. They are all over the place here (on the road) but they leave mud on them as a status symbol.

I want a small truck based SUV like a Toyota 4 Runner.

I always buy 4x4 Trucks both the 2005 F150 Supercrew I currently own (95000 miles) & the previous 2001 F150 have had zero problems with the 4x4 systems

Of course you need to do a lift kit and put monster mudders on them also. They are all over the place here (on the road) but they leave mud on them as a status symbol.

True. We have muck over here and it's lots of fun blasting through but not something I have to do. If I wanted to hit the mud I'd have something just for it.

Get 4WD. If you rarely use 4WD then it won't break. If you use 4WD a bunch then you must have it. Dilemma solved.

I've never had to put a carry gun to use. But just like 4WD... it's there if I need it.

We have two trucks, both 2WD. I bought them in southern california and didnt need 4WD there. We moved here in SW utah. We live at 6,000 ft and just behind us the mountain range is 10,000 ft. We tried to sell one a couple years ago and it wouldnt sell as everyone here wants a 4WD,

I want a used truck / 2WD / Extended or Crew Cab / prefer 8 foot bed / prefer automatic / prefer electric windows / prefer bucket seats up front / rear seat is who cares - probably will be removed / cleaner than an oil drillers rig / ...

Stopped by two dealers today.

#1 the Truck Man was too busy fiddling around to bother with me.
After being ignored for fifteen minutes I left. (Parker Ford here in Murray KY)

#2 Did have a couple of used 2WD F150s - too new and too high.

Will be in Paducah Tuesday - worth checking some lots there.

It is not like I have a deadline.

As for special ordering a NEW truck at dealer friendly pricing - There have been NO reports of falling temperature in Hades.
