Don't know where it belong so I'll put it here. Why do people list guns for sale that are older and not give as s/n? Makes it impossible to value. Makes no sense. Rant over.

What I have been told. Some paranoid people believe that if the serial number is put in the ad, the police will check to see if the gun has been stolen. If it has been stolen, they are afraid they will have to "return" it to its rightful owner. They will have to become involved with the police investigation and suffer the monetary loss by surrendering the stolen gun.

As I told a lady in church, privacy is like safety, fitness-and Christianity-it is not something you achieve, it is something you practice. How many people post their home addresses, phone numbers, D/L numbers, license plates, SSANs, etc. ?

As some of you know I collect Club Guns. I was looking at a possible score due to the angle of the serial number in the picture. I emailed the dealer asking for the full serial number. The reply I got back was, "buy it and find out"! Needless to say, I didn't buy it.

People could in theory take the number creating fake documents report they just realized it was missing and now this guy is selling it.

No. That's a commonly used excuse but, when pressed, no one can name an actual incidence where it was tried. It is more likely the rightful owner would turn it around and create "false police report" issues for anyone who tried it.

When I post a gun for sale, I don't specifically list the s/n, but I don't blot it out on the pics either.

It will be visible on the gun, or on the box too if it has one.

I have one of the WVPSC 4566TSW's, and I listed the s/n on the thread, so they are accounted for by s/n.

And if anyone tried to pull the stunt mentioned earlier, I have my invoice from WVLED to prove that UCU8686 is indeed mine.

Just image if they put this in a book that was delivered to every house in town. God forbid. :)

Those days are long gone.

I think the last phone book we got we got that had residential as well as business listings was maybe 2006, not too long after we moved to Casa QD67.
