Why no Shield .45 acp?

.45 ACP vs .40 S&W
If you're talking about the width, I don't think that's an issue. My 1911 is .92" wide and according to the S&W website, the Shield is .95" so, it's wide enough.

I just think the Shield grip is too small.

I'll ask again, what's wrong with the .45c?

Probably look similar to this. . .

They would have to build a new frame and the mold for the frame, and the length of the operating action would have to be lengthened due to the length of the .45 ACP cartridge. Who knows what they might do in the future, but they seem to be selling every Shield they can make and their production seems to be running at capacity as they seem to be behind on pistols, making fewer revolvers, and they cannot seem to got or make enough magazines to allow customers to buy extras of the ones now in the catalog. Personally, the 9mm seems more desirable in a pistol the size of the Shield as magazine capacity will really suffer in .45 ACP. In addition, the 9mm is more controllable, allowing faster follow-up shots than the .45 ACP.

I'll ask again, what's wrong with the .45c?

Absolutely nothing, I've got one and like it (though a 3.5" barrel might be nice :D ). Personally I'd just like more options and if Springfield can sell as many XDs's and Glock as many G36's as they do then certainly S&W should want a slice of that single stack 45 market.

I certainly can't argue with that.

I'm just curious though, why a 3.5" barrel? Is there some benefit I'm missing?

No real need just throwing it out there. The current 45c is just fine but if I were to suggest any changes (or perhaps an additional shorter barrel model like the FS vs Mid 45) that'd be it. That or a Shield in 45 would do nicely.

If Springfield can make a 45 in a compact so can SW. My XDS is smaller than my shield actually. The recoil is not that bad either. the XDS was my first 45 ever and i can shoot it pretty well. I was very surprised and thought the recoil would be terrible but its not. The XDS is a 5+1 with the smaller mag (same as any revolver basically) but with the power of a 45 acp. I actually find the 45 to shoot softer than any 40 i have shot. The 40 has some snap. So if you are buying a 40 shield, i think you could handle a 45 acp shield or xds easier. That is my opinion take if for what you will. I think the XDS has cornered the carry 45 market.

A little much cartridge for the size of the size of the platform.

It obviously couldn't be the size of the 9/40 Shield, it would need to be a little larger.

I don't see the value in giving up critical limited capacity for a marginal (if any) increase in perceived terminal performance.

.45ACP is a better choice for cold weather areas where we deal with layers of clothing that can fill up hollowpoint cavities. If I'm going to shoot something that has the likelihood of turning into ball on impact, I'd rather shoot .45ACP.

What's wrong with the 45c?

Too thick for EDC IWB, IMO. Heck, my 40c is marginal for IWB. A single stack 45 would be about as wide of a gun as I'd want to stuff in my pants most days.
