I'd say it's the cylinder stop stud has been replaced. Looks to be a bit too far forward and a bit too high to be the trigger stud.

Interestingly, never thought about it before, but you can see the pins in this Scandium framed 325 PD…. Maybe Bubba was going for the same contrasting look?

Pre-war S&Ws used threaded studs (at least the hammer). Post-war they started to use press fit studs. They are very difficult to replace outside of the factory.

Here’s a pic of an old Mulhouse built Manurhin MR73. Everyone knows that these were designed to be more rugged versions of a S&W. One thing they did was to use specially hardened studs. When the gun was blued, the result was a color difference because of the two different steels.

Unless we know the specific history of the revolver in the original post, we can’t say for sure that the work isn’t actually an improvement! Likely the original stud broke. Perhaps somebody engineered an improvement and just left the part “in the white”?
Having said that, I agree that the closing price on this one seems perhaps ridiculous.
