I am waiting on my lee classic turret to come in but I have my reloading bench prepped. I have a smaller home and 3 kids (no garage) and the wife gave me a 50" space to reload in a spare bedroom:o Oh and an old kitchen Island. The results.

Here is what I started with:

I built a top and some shelves and added some plastic bins.

Considering I have a very hard time putting things from walmart together and haven't built anything since a last place pine car for my sons boy scouts I am kinda happy. Now if my press would just come in!

Any suggestions on what I need or could do to improve?

Thanks

It's too clean and well organized. That will change.

I would turn that Unique into fertilizer and go buy some Win 231. I started with Unique and found it to be one of my most difficult to meter powders. I mostly use Win231/HP38 and Bullseye. Some guys meter Unique just fine, but I am far from alone on this issue.

You have 50" in width but how much do you have in height? I would consider building up buy adding more shelving or even cabinets to the top. Also with kids in the house you need to install locks on your doors. Some sort of lighting fixture would be nice too.

thanks guys...i have locks on the doors now so that will be good to go....my brass tumbler is also in the mail.

I will tumble outside in the carport. I don't wna tto tumble in the house with the kids because of lead concerns (prob be too careful but my youngest atre 3 and 8 months)

thanks again

Thanks for your post, I appreciate your situation.
In 'our' home I have a man corner, ( safe and a few shelves) I really need to build a shop/barn/man cave.
I believe primers are the biggest source of lead (from fire cases), so primers being punched out would be the largest concern.

This little unit looks good for adding more portable space, but then it needs to be stored when not in use...

I love the way Unique shoots w/ lead bullets & w/ the right gear & technique, you can get it to meter +/- 0.1gr. If you like the burn rate of Unqiue, give WSF a try. Almost identical, maybe a tiny bit slower & meters as well as W231. A better choice for midrange loads in magnums & high pressure rounds like the 40.
Ten, you loading setup lokks fine. I have reloaded in even smaller spaces. The smaller the space means you just have to be more organized. I would probably take advantage of the wall space behind the bench & put shelves all the way up. One can never have enough storage.

I have never had much more space than that. In times of Political Upheaval here in Mexico I have had to just use the presses C-clamped to a desk or bench to be dismounted after use and stored in a special suitcase I made up with foam cutouts to take everything and not let the powder measure spill or adjustments move. Reloading IS legal in Mexico, but the Mexican Army (my heros and yours I'm sure) says it is not. So one must do what one must do. You have enough space, and won't have to rip everything down everytime the doorbell rings. I'm envious.

If no one has mentioned it, good lighting is really nice to have, and some form of magnifier for old eyes doesn't hurt either for close inspections of things that need closer inspecting. I do all my case-cleaning down in the garage as a case-cleaner can double as a jewelry polisher I suppose, but the Mexican Army would not even know what it was anyway so I am not THAT paranoid about it.

I lost my "man lair" last year but got a baby girl for it in trade so I'll make do.
The safe is now in the living room and I have an old closet with the doors taken off in the corner of the bedroom for my reloading area.
I went on Craigslist and got an old 3x5ft desk for $20.00. Then bought a cheap bookshelf from Kmart that stands about 3ft high and set that on top of the desk backed up to the wall.
Drilled holes in the desk and mounted a 550 and put a footlocker under the desk for powder.
While not ideal it is more than adequate and I don't feel crowded at all.
