Took the Sigma out for some fun at the local range. I took my wife who has never shot a handgun and she plane out shot me! Now granted I have only about 400 rounds on her but she kicked my butt. She was shooting 8-10" groups at 7, 10 and 12 yards. Now I do have an artificial shoulder but that is no excuse!! 200 rounds today and the gun did not miss a beat.

Time to do my first cleaning.

It's actually more common than you would think. I've seen several folks who've never handled any gun grab one and absolutely run it like a pro. I think it's cause they don't come up to the line with any preconcieved notions etc when they start shooting.

Once a year target

My wife only shoots once or twice a year. This is her last 15 yard target with her Ruger MIII Target model. Yes she out shot me and her son.

I used to teach friend's wives and girlfriends how to shoot when they lacked the patience. Pretty common to have them shooting better than the guys did, often with larger caliber guns than they told the "little lady" they would be able to shoot.....

They weren't always too happy about it......

Women don't try to be macho and pay attention to the coach. It's very common for them to outshoot the men. I only wish more women would stay with it and compete.

My wife once was handed a 1911 that she'd never seen before. She did fine with it. I had no 1911 experience myself at the time (although I'd been shooting for quite a while by then), and didn't quite do as well. She just didn't realize that she should be afraid of it :D.... Circa 1980....

We had a young lady who used to accompany her boyfriend to our club range a few years ago (haven't seen her since, unfortunately). ANYTHING we'd hand her, she shot better than the rest of us! Including some seriously goofy things like my CS45....

My daughter (24 now, and very petite) is quite capable with some guns, but just can't get others to do anything right. I hope I can get her some M&P40 time next week - she's supposed to be in town. She loves my old M39, and shoots the old 6" M19 as well as I can. But "her" XD9SC, well, forget it....

Regards,

My wife made me proud of her shootin' and a little embarrassed over mine. I need to shoot more often.

The best students are (mostly) women who are interested and have no bad habits to overcome. They listen and learn quickly, and have no problem accepting instruction.

The worst students have every bad habit, want to show off, and are more interested in competing with the instructor than gleaning any new information. For some reason, most in this category are men. However, there was this one woman..........

My running gag is that men want to shoot "belchfire magnums" they can't control, and women beginners want the "cute little gun."

About half the women show up with a little semi-auto somebody picked for them, and after shooting a couple of guns that fit them, leave saying "I'm going to buy a medium Smith and Wesson revolver or semi-auto."

Heck mine out shoots me most of the time. She has also won tomahawk throwing contests in 5 states. Due to her various skills with deadly weapons, Ol Iggy walks the straight and narrow.

She really works and concentrates on the basics of anything she does and the results reflect that.

She is a full time bowler, that's how we met. I quit bowling after we were married. The one time I bowled against her 20 years later, I beat her. Needless to say I ain't gonna do that again!:D

Once a woman overcomes the noise, she naturally squeezes the trigger which is probably biggest advantage she gains over a man. Women are not as strong in the hands/fingers and naturally are smoother than men. We men have to learn to squeeze, and women for lack of strength(not always but in a lot of cases) start out with a softer pull than men. I have seen some women, especially with a double action revolver have a harder time with accuracy than with a striker fired auto, which stands to reason, but also have seen women shoot revolvers better than auto, so it is hard to unequivocally say that a woman can shoot a revolver with better accuracy than an auto. zorro49

Every women I have ever taught to shoot, has out shot me with my own guns. That may say more about my shooting skills then theirs....

Women have smaller hands and are accustomed to performing delicate, finely controlled motor tasks. How many guys can perform any type of sewing, fine stitching / embroidery, or for that matter, even thread a needle?
