Wife's first gun?

Blujax, my wife enjoys shooting with me, she shoots well and can handle a .357 magnum just fine; enough that I am excited to help place a quality gun in her hands. I have an opportunity to share a hobby/obsession with her and she has expressed exactly what would make it more enjoyable for her - I couldn't be happier.

I have no idea how many firearms you own but I would hazard a guess that after 1,280 posts in just about 1.5 years of membership with this forum, that you passed the point of "needing" a gun quite some time ago. I am completely new to owning firearms and I have already passed the realistic point of "needing" any more guns. My wife doesn't need a gun but she wants a blued 6" .357 and that's what she'll get.

Um, hmmm, er ...
I'm defending you and your question. I was making fun at the responders who were telling you anything but what you asked.

I would suggest that you re-think the "I have decided" part of the acquisition of your wifes' handgun. I would want someone to help me make that important decision, answer questions, make suggestions, but I would want to make the final call myself, at the risk of seeming stuborn!

...

She is specific in that she wants a 6" bbl and blued revolver only. I'd say she has fine taste. ...

My question is what should I reasonably expect to pay? ...

Anything under $500 will be a steal.

Hi,

For heaven's sake, buy her a nice Model 19 K-frame with a six inch barrel and she'll love it . . . for find either a blued Model 27 or 28 N frame in the same length!

One of two GREAT things will happen if you buy the M19 . . .

1. She'll LOVE IT.

2. She'll hate it and you'll get a really fine 6" barrel M19 that may quickly take the place of your nose-heavy 6" 686!

Or, if your get the N frame, she'll almost surely find the grip size a tad large for her petite hands . . . and you'll end up with an N frame and can buy her the M-19.

Frankly, my wife's favorite gun to shoot is my 3" barreled Model 65, but it was too large for practical concealed carry. She now loves her 3" barreled Model 37 J frame.

HOWEVER, your wife is going to shoot her gun for fun and will enjoy the easier to align sights of the 6."

I REALLY think she'll love the slightly smaller and lighter K frame, and aprreciate the lighter barrel of the K too vs. both the L frames and N frame .357s.

Tom

PS: Another great choice? A 6" Model 14 in .38 special . . . real tack drivers on the range, and designed for accurate shooting vs. defense!

OK.... this is where I get banned........I can no longer resist...............

It's clear your wife want a 6 inch heavy barrel.... maybe a python.....................

sorry mods. ..... got to go

I agree. The key here is what she wants. I've selected several for my wife and she picks them up when she has to.. :(

You guys are absolutely right. I tend to be pretty overbearing with my opinion and she knows this. In the end, no matter how much I may huff and puff she will still go with what she feels is best.

Gees, thanks for pointing out my angle in all of this! I get to live vicariously through her and so what if I am hoping she changes her mind AFTER we own the gun?! :D

Ok, thanks blujax. I have seen a few hovering at the $490 range so I will try and lock one in.

This actually made me laugh pretty hard. The good news is by marrying me, she already got herself an 8 inch anaconda ;)
