I taught my wife to shoot with a Walther THP. Then I stumbled onto a little masterpiece: the Model 34 with a 4" barrel, adjustable rear sight and ramp front sight. She's DEADLY with it! And she almost always shoots it DA. I believe this gun was made around 1964, but I could be mistaken.

My wife (and most others in the family) loves the Model 34-1 that we have. They are just about the best revolver training gun I have run across.

I see the OP's has pinned barrel so made before 1982, and non-diamond stocks, so after 1968. If serial number starts with M then made after 1969.

Mine is a 34-1, 1972 serial no. M 51XXX

The Model 34 was first introduced in 1953 and was discontinued in 1991 so 38 years of fine craftsmanship and precision that S&W is renowned for.

Like your wife......when the shooter does his/her part.....this gun is always spot on.

Fine looking 34 you have. Enjoy for many more years.

Actually the .22/32 Kit Gun was introduced in 1936. Production was suspended during the war, but it was reintroduced in September, 1950. Some design changes were made and a new serial sequence was started in 1953, but it did not become the Model 34 until 1958.

In 1960, the Kit Gun was transitioned to the J frame from the older I frame, and the model designation became 34-1.

I've got basically the same gun in Stainless = the Model 63. They are really great guns and mine accompanies me in the Field when Pheasant Hunting. A great accurate & lightweight .22 that is real handy!

Many women like the 34 / 63 over the M18 / M17 because the frame size is just more conducive to their smaller hands.
