Anyone else following the latest Wikileaks revelations? Pretty scary stuff. I'm now wondering if my Samsung TV has a direct connection to the NSA and the CIA. And it's not because I wear an aluminum foil hat - this stuff is definitely for real. Not a political comment, but it sure deserves some thought and reflection on how we got here and if we can ever get out of it.

I have always approached all my electronic communications devices with the assumption that they are vulnerable, that someone somewhere can listen, watch, read, no matter what passwords and protection software I use, and the idea that the CIA or any sinister government agency is listening in on my pizza orders, or is using my phone camera to surrepticiously record either my toes or my slack jaw as I peruse the forum, is actually one of my lesser worries.

My main concern is with the cell phone and the big push for having your credit & debit cards on your phone. I don't trust the banking by cell phone, I know it is "supposed" to be more safe than writing a check, but I'm leery.

It may seem quaint now, but most businesses will still accept *CASH*. The only problem is that they may be unable to calculate correct change. Also, you can't use cash at the gas pumps at Costco.

This is a double edge sword. Bad that the govt. is not following the constitution and bad that all this **** including methods is now available to all. Congress created this mess after Watergate.
There is no way for the govt to stop spying. Use a credit/debit card? Cell/landline Phone?, GPS?, internet? Snail/email? text? social networks including "private" messages? , buy a firearm legally?, ammo, Travel by plane/train/bus?, even by car there are license plate readers everywhere. All or most illegal under the constitution. But that has not stop congress from passing anything.

I couldnt read the entire article thanks to some fatempta stupid ad--appeared. But what I read till that happened-was where it said even though power is off-it still stays on? My simple cheap solution-unplug the dern tv.I dont have to worry about it--I have a "dumb" tv set that I bought in 04.

No need to get paranoid! First of all, its the CIA that got betrayed (notice I didn't say hacked) and they are not authorized to go after domestic targets, that's the FBI's job. And trust me when I tell you the FBI has bigger fish to fry, the last person they're going to go after is Billy Bob Joe Willy Smith mooning and flipping the bird at his Samsung TV!!!

Let's just say that how you feel about these revelations tends to depend a whole lot on how you feel about the people actually doing the watching. If you tend to believe they're on your side, it's not so bad. However, if you tend to believe that they aren't entirely on your side with this business, it's Armageddon.

Ever go through a U. S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Texas? No exaggeration - there are DOZENS of cameras trained on you, plus a number of other detectors which I don't know what they are for. At least some of them are radiation detectors. And also dogs. I got stopped for inspection once due to a couple of weeks worth of dirty laundry in my truck bed, which got the dog's attention.

If you tend to believe they're on your side, it's not so bad. However, if you tend to believe that they aren't entirely on your side with this business, it's Armageddon.

It's not about the watching ... it's the manipulation of IoT.
Your car is computer controlled and many have some wireless connectivity.
where the 1's and 0's = an agent forced to watch some unsavory shower scenes where the network drive gains 10 pounds per minute ... it's hilarious.
Where the 1's and 0's = a car flat out + a concrete abutment ... the laughter needs to stop
