'Tis the season

I have only seen one fawn so far this year and the landowner where we hunt mentioned they have not seen any. It has been dry but seems like we may have had a bad hatch here in central Ohio. We usually see at least 2 does with twins, but not this year.

It looks like it's also tick season in Vermont! Or deer flies or some other blood sucking bugs. Nice picture. We have a few new deer puppies around here now, but most stay alive since we live in the city; not a lot of predators.

Deer flies. I've only seen this one fawn so far but several other doe are around. Twins are more the norm. Never gets old seeing fawns.

Seen plenty of fawns this year.

Also have seen quite a few bucks sporting some nice things growing out of their head. Got at least one 8 pointer crossing my back yard.

Saw a doe with three fawns today out near the Connecticut River. I still only have seen this one at my house. Getting bigger for sure.

I guess these three have been keeping a low profile since this is the first time I've seen them. Mom is smiling.

We had a “ herd” on the farm many years ago. Some would stand on their hind legs and pull down the limbs of apple trees. All of them got to eat.

Tried plantin' corn but it never took.

Tried to raise their blood pressure with salt, didn't seem to bother 'em.

This was disturbing.

Hope to not see any more of that.

Mostly mule deer here in central Washington where I live. Often run across them while hiking.

A couple of months ago I took two of my grandchildren to Desota State Park near Ft. Paine,Ala. We rented a cabin and when we pulled into the driveway we saw a doe with a very small newborn spotted fawn. I didn't have time to get a picture as the fawn immediately laid down and hid as the doe tried to get us to follow her away from the fawn. We didn't approach them and left them alone. I have enough behind my house when deer season opens. A couple of years ago my brother and fellow Forum member Louisiana Joe came over to visit. We were headed to a catfish restaurant in his car when we came across a little spotted fawn that had just been hit by a car and was laying dead in the road. It was a very fresh kill. He asked me what do we need to do. "Open your trunk" was was my reply. It was fried back straps and biscuits for breakfast the next morning. Waste not, want not.

This grey fox doesn't appear to notice the pheasant carcass hung up in the tree above him. I'm trying to get him to jump or climb the tree to get it.

I've been trying to get a grey fox to climb a tree and get a pheasant carcass but only had one pass by and then had a opossum come and steal a couple. Nailed it up better and this red fox came along last night. The whole process lasted 14 minutes and he went back up the tree a couple times, I guess looking for more.
