Florida has passed Constitutional Carry as of 1 July 2023. Even though it makes it legal to carry without a CCW here, I will renew my CCW License for the state. Just got the renewal form in the mail today. At a $45.00 renewal fee it is good for seven years, plus probably will eliminate questions in others state that have reciprocity with Florida.

Indiana recently became a Constitutional carry state but I already had a lifetime CC permit. I still carry it in my billfold "just in case".

Mine expires in exactly 1 year. I'll renew as I have through all the "changes" since 1988. For the reasons you stated. Joe

That's basically my reasoning as well. Ohio has greater reciprocity than any other state, so that alone makes it worthwhile.

I also pay for the legal defense fund of CCW Safe which requires it.

I keep my Texas LTC. Mostly because we travel around the southeast in our RV a lot and it removes a whole lot of complications due to variations in laws in different jurisdictions. I don't intentionally favor or disfavor states based on reciprocity. It just turns out the only places I want to go have reciprocity with Texas! and barbecue...mmm.....

A completely normal Texas attitude! Mmmmm....

Offhand, I am not sure that Constitutional carry automatically covers citizens outside of their residential states but I would expect that the Privileges and Immunities clause of the 14th Amendment applies. Since something like 37 states reciprocate with Texas I just keep my LTC and don't worry about this correct interpretation of the Constitution needing to be called upon. :D

But y'all missed one extra benefit for retaining your CHL/CCW/LTC/whatever it's called. At least in Texas, anyway, license holders are given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to having a background check since your "goodness" has already been verified in order to get the license so you can buy a gun anywhere in the state, complete the Form 4473, and you're done. ;)

Does Ohio recognize Pa yet? Have a friend that lives in Pa 15 miles from the Ohio state line He can not carry in Ohio, but mine being from Florida, I can carry in both states.

My retired LEO credentials allow me to carry anywhere in my state, but I'm not sure how far outside the state they extend.

A good idea. In certain states carrying a handgun into a "no guns allowed" area gets you a polite request to depart if you have a CCW license, but a trip to the local jail if you don't.

To me, the CCW license shows law enforcement you are trying to comply to the laws of the state. I'd like to think mistakes would be treated as an Oops, rather than willful violation.

I live in Washington, and have had a WA CCW since about 1993, but I got an Arizona non-resident for the reciprocity almost everywhere except the eastern seaboard. Really frustrated that Oregon recognizes neither.

I got my CCW originally in case I had a pocket knife, or there happened to be a handgun in the truck, under the seat,,

I hoped that the CCW would reduce questions if I was ever stopped.

One state trooper told me that the CCW has zero influence on knives,,
I still do not know that answer positively,,,

Anyone know if the CCW impacts knives??

Every state is different, so doing a search on the VA attorney general's website or giving them a call is highly recommended.

I'm definitely renewing too. Right now Florida is my state of residence, stationed in VA but live physically in NC. Having my Florida permit makes my life easier

Yes, about 1/2 of the states do now recognize Constitutional Carry, but for several of those it applies only to residents of that state.

For some states that have reciprocity with your home state this only applies to non-residents who have a home state permit to carry. If you think you can depend on constitutional carry in a state that has reciprocity with your home state, and you do not have a permit from your home state you may be unpleasantly surprised!

If you travel and have a home state permit to carry be sure to renew it because of the above issues.

And just a reminder, there is the matter of a requirement to inform law enforcement during any contact that you are armed may also apply, even if your home state does not have this requirement. In addition there is also a requirement to notify emergency medical personnel, EMTs, just the same as law enforcement, in at least Nebraska. I don't know about others.

Don't rely on your home state requirements when traveling, the requirements of the state which you are in prevail.

Every state has different knife laws, almost harder to keep up with than the gun laws. In Iowa I can legally carry a switchblade, 15 miles away in Minnesota it is illegal to own one. The Iowa carry permit states Permit to Carry Weapons

Weather or not a State has Constitutional Carry or not, I always renew the States Permit. These days anytime a new politician gets into office anything can change. Gun laws seem to change like the wind!

There are also certain advantages for having an actual license on your person. From what I understand, even in States where you are not required to inform an Officer during a traffic stop, you have to unless you have an actual permit. Not that I wouldn't anyway, but in the heat of the moment you could get nervous, forget, get side-tracked, etc. If you have the permit, you are not required to inform (depending on the State of course).

The other advantage is that in a State like FL the permit is honored in many other States as long as you are a resident of the issuing State AND have he permit in your possession.

Last but not least, it just makes me feel better. :)

Tennessee passed "permitless" carry not long ago. But I still renew my Enhanced Handgun Permit when it comes due. Living in the south west corner of the state, I sometimes venture into Mississippi or Arkansas. Or I may chose to vacation or travel to other states. My Tennessee permit is honored most everywhere I may go. ;)

My Florida permit runs out this August and I will renew.

Just being able to take my new gun home the same day and avoiding the normal 3-day waiting period makes it worth having it.

I wish the store could accept my CCW number and eliminate another FBI background check form. Many FBI hours are wasted doing a background check on a CCW holder who had a deep-dive to get the CCW.

My CCW came up for renewal and since MO passed Con Carry I asked my wife if she would be content to take every vacation for the rest of our lives in Missouri. I renewed my permit for the travel advantages!

Renewed my Missouri permit today. Weird deal. I know that I got my permit back in April 2018, for a fact and without a doubt. Never looked at it, knew that it expired April 2023. Traveled a bunch in April 2023, kept forgetting to go renew even though the Sheriff's Department was right there. Went in today. Renewed. Paid a $10 penalty in addition to the $50 fee. Took about 15 minutes. Got to the Jeep to do work. Looked at old permit. Issued April 2019, expires April 2024. Didn't happen. I know for a fact that I got the permit in 2018. In 2019, I was bounty hunting, and had the permit for a year. I didn't go back to bring it up, and I don't care. Most of the forum members here would be having a stroke today . . .
