Will the new M&P Bodyguard be a winner?

It looks like the "old" BG380 to me with M&P roll markings, but without the Insight Laser. If so, it will be a basic, but good, CQB pocket pistol.

I owned an early BG380 with the laser. I bought if for my wife and as a back up. The laser never worked very well. It saw a couple trips back for repairs. When I felt it was working consistently, I traded it.

I liked the idea of the laser, but not the real world operation/reliability of it (especially for my wife). I might revisit the new BG380. I like the addition of the 2nd strike feature. The basic gen 1 gun was a pretty good pocket piece and the new version should be the same.
 
This might be the perfect in-pocket gun I'm looking for. Anyone know when it will be in stores?

Strongly disagree. I'm not saying that a bellygun has to have a target quality trigger, but I've seen some that darn near needed two fingers on the trigger to pull. When a trigger is so heavy that you're throwing shots, it's too heavy.

Thanks - I don't have a Kahr right now, but the BG is a tempting alternative to it and to the LCP. I'll have to seek one out and see how it feels.

I'm talking about the BG380 not some imaginary 2 finger trigger gun... not to mention, how far do you think your going to throw a round at 7 ft...

And I was asking how the trigger is in the BG. What's your point again?

I've seen people throw shots off a B27 at ten feet due to stress and a heavy trigger.
 
I have a first generation BG380 and I love the ergonomics of this pocket gun. I sure hope S&W changes away from the MIM firing pin on the new one. The firing pin broke in mine so I don't trust it.

I passed on the BG380 because of the laser and price. Had it been free or less expensive, then I would have bought it instead of the LCP. I want to pocket carry and carry with a Technaclip (sp?), but I need a manual safety for that.
Funny thing is, now I've got the new M&P BG on order. I will lose more selling my LCP then had I just bought the S&W BG. Live and learn I guess.
 
I dont understand why they didn't make it a striker fire like the rest of the M&P line. I just don't care for the double action only, so ill pass on this one.
 
They tried to make the M&P22 striker fired but couldn't get the reliability. I read that somewhere, I don't work for S&W. I'm guessing the BG was probably the same.
I would like to have a small, medium, large, and 22 version with all the same trigger. I don't think that exists.
I'm not buying the I can't hit a target at 10 feet with a double action trigger, but I have long fingers. Maybe the people that have so much issue with triggers, and reset have small hands. I'm not saying I can hit the center and keep a 1" group with a pocket pistol, but I can hit the target.

The other day, I went to the indoor range with some friends for some stress relief. With my M&P9c and my Shield9, I can usually keep all my shots within a quarter or better at seven yards. I tried my friends Sig 250 with the DAO trigger and it was like shooting a rusty revolver. Group sizes averaged 2-3 inches. Same for my friends. He's got it up for sale now.
 
:)I just pulled my BG out of the safe for the day... worked the trigger for a bit... every time I pull that trigger it feels better. I've always thought it was a decent trigger for it's class of gun. But every now and then, I read some posts and have to reassess it. Trigger pull is smooth and firm and the break is clean and crisp for me... all with one finger..:)

You just proved my point. I think 2 to 3 inches is outstanding. Rounds on target as quick as I can, that's practice. 2.something barrel is not a bulls eye target pistol. I don't imagine I'll be attacked by a quarter. Sorry just kidding, I had to throw that in there.

FYI, so I emailed S&W about the release date of the new BG and they said it should start shipping "early March".

With all due respect sir, but this is BS. I wouldn't use it for home defense, that's for sure. But in the time of need a properly employed .380 is better than nothing!

I like it and will probably get one.

I do. Almost every day. And I have more guns in my safes to choose from than most normal people could even count (excluding company on forums like these, of course).

I have a very simple theory. If you start poking 8 3/8 inch holes in somebody, they're gonna stop doing whatever it is they were doing to you. If they don't, I've likely done enough damage to'em to throw it at'em and run.

Next time somebody points a .380 at you, be sure to remember to stick your tongue out at them. Smile too. With a big grin. :)
 
I've loathed the fact that both Bodyguards had integral, not OPTIONAL, lasers since their intro. NOW, they need to ditch it on the revolver sibling, then I might experiement with one.

I just got hands-on with the G42 yesterday, and it fit fine in the front pocket of my jeans. Having read of trigger concerns with it, I was pleased to see it wasn't too bad. Felt like my last G17 experiment whereby I installed an NY1 spring. Simply gives you firm resistence from the start, rather than the two-stage feel of a stock Glock. Most notable was that it did NOT index high for me as with standard Glocks. Overall, I am fairly impressed with what they did.

I look at it this way. I didn't pay much for the laser on mine because it wasn't worth a **** anyway. :D

I had the same experience with the "old" BG 380 trigger and I was very accurate with it. I attribute that, in part, to more than 35 years of experience with S&W double action revolver shooting,

The new bodyguard is out. Saw it at a gun show today for 330 didn't take pics. Triggerpull feels the same

Me too. My BG 380 is my EDC because it fits in my pocket, and the gun I have on me is the best gun to use for the defense of me and my family. I own a Shield 9 and when I have pockets that can hold it, I carry it but the Shield is so much bigger and heavier that I can never seem to forget it's in there.

When I go to the range, the first gun with which I practice is my BG 380. I don't practice squeezing shots off to get them right on target, either. I pick it up and immediately practice with double taps at the target to see how I do with the trigger and the sights. Why? Because that's the real world for me. This gun is the likely candidate in the extremely unlikely event I will need to pull my gun out of its holster, followed by the even more unlikely event that I need to pull its trigger.

Like so many, I'd trade the laser for an extra magazine and a cheaper price. It's interesting but I doubt it will be useful. And the buttons... not good.
