Will these grips fit a 629 mountain gun?

no- the 629 is an N frame, unless I'm mistaken the Model 500 grips are the smaller K and L frame size.

Model 500 is an X-Frame which is bigger than the N Frame, right?

The Frame is larger, yes, but the grip frame is K size.

So far as using the Hogue grip for the K frame on an N frame, even tough it theoretically shouldn't work it usually does, just a little tight. The only difference between the K and N grip frames is the back-strap from about the stock screw up to the knuckle. the back of the frame top is about 1/8" farther back than on the K making it effectively a little straighter. The factory grips for the original .44 Mountain Revolver, predecessor of the later Mountain Gun, were the Pachmayr SK-Gripper for the round butt K-frame, and so marked. They are rubber, they will stretch slightly.

Those grips will work on any K/L/N/X-frame. The blurb from the website says:

(Must Have Rounded Corners On Butt Of Frame) Models 10, 12, 13, 19, 64, 65, 66, 296, 386/PD, 396, 586, 617, 646, 648, 681, 686, 696, 24, 29, 610, 624, 625, 627, 629, 657, 460 and 500.

It lists K-frames (10, 12, 13, 19, 64, 65, 66, 617, 648), L-frames (296, 386, 396, 586, 646, 681, 686, 696), N-frames (24, 29, 610, 624, 625, 627, 629, 657), and X-frames (460 and 500). So you should be good to go.

What is the deal with "must have rounded corners" in the above post? Is this stock or not?
Thanks, Sonny

I'm quite dubious about their working on a 629. Every model they list has K/L grip dimensions, not N. On a Hogue grip, it might or might not stretch over an N-frame. They are one-piece and don't fit the same as Pachmayrs, and getting K/L size Pachys to work on a round butt N has been a hit or miss thing for me; sometimes works, sometimes not.

The "rounded corners" reference must surely mean a round butt grip frame. Whoever did the website copy obviously isn't a gun person.

Call Smith and ask.

Rounded Corners equals Round Butt. Don't ask how I know.
You got me curious so I went in and took the pair off my 500 and put them on my 627 pc. They fit with just a little persuation. The screw on the X frame grip is larger than the one for the Hogues on the 627 and I didn't change out the hardware but it appeared it would work. I just bought a set of these grips on fleabay for $30.00 shipped. They are in the origional packaging with the S&W logo and he had more. Just search using S&W 500 grip.
Hope this helps

Update: I called S&W and they said that the 500 grips will work on a Mountain Gun. I ordered a pair. I'll post pics eventually once I get them installed.
