Does anyone know if this will work with the Troy MRF 7" version (the MP-15T has the 10" version)?

I am a bit concerned about that "blob" just in front of the receiver on the top picture (just before the handguard) that does not show in the 2nd picture...

That top photo is rather small, but I do believe your "blob" as you call it is the stock delta ring.

In contrast, the Troy rail you are looking at is a free floating rail and so would not be using the delta ring to retain the hand guard.

Troy does make a non-floating 7" quad rail for that fits the M&P nicely. I have one on mine....and it uses the blob to hold it in place. ;)

If your blob is something else in the photo, I do not know what you are referencing. A larger imagine with the part in question highlighted would be helpful.

The blob is exactly what I was referring to. So one type of rail installs on the delta ring, and is not considered free floating, while the type of rail that is on my MP15T has a different attachment system and is free floating? Does this mean I can purchase any rail described as free floating and it I can substitute it for the troy rail on my MP15T?

No. Many free floats are one piece and require you to remove the front sight post and replacement of the barrel nut for installation. The Troy MRF requires removal of the delta ring but this can be cut off with a dremal tool so you don't have to remove the front sight post. Also Daniel Defense makes a two piece free float that does not require removal of the delta ring, not sure what model it is but I have heard good things about it.

I have a Smith and Wesson branded Troy MRF 7" system on my ar-15 which is not a free-float design so it tends to have a little rotational play. Since I only use it for VFG's and lights, it doesnt bother me a whole lot.

Daniel Defense makes a nice quad rail system called the Omega 7 which is considered a free float system, and requires no modifications to your AR whatsoever. It has a bunch of screws to take out the rotational effect so that it is rock solid as well. No need to even remove your delta ring. That may be your best option.
