Has anyone used the Wilson .357 ammo? I read recently that it shoots softer than other magnums but attains the same velocity. Special powder?

Anyway, it is pretty expensive $2.00 per round + shipping. So I thought I'd ask first.

$2+ a round, holy

If you're willing to spend that much, you should seriously consider buying a press, some 38/357 dies, a scale and powder measure, and just start reloading them yourself. With just a bit of help-you can get it right here in the reloading section-you'll soon be making ammunition that shoots better than that stuff, for a lot cheaper.

This would be just for carry. I would practice with cheaper ammo.

I carry now with Federal .357 (125 gr.), which is a pretty punishing round. If the Wilson has the same potency with less recoil (sounds iffy to me) then I would give it a try. A magazine writer said it was softer shooting.

If you really like the 125 grain 357 round just get Hornady's
they are just as good and robably half the price. Your just buying the Wilson Name.

I've never shot the Wilson Ammo (I didn't even know they made it) but the 125 grain uses the Barnes XPB bullet, just like the Cor-bon DPX. It looks to me like they are both spec'ed at the same velocity, 1300fps out of a 4" barrel. If that was what I had my heart set on, I would probably buy the Cor-bon; it's slightly cheaper, and seems to be very well regarded. Either should be slightly milder than the full-power Federal (or Remington) stuff, but not a lot.

Devil's advocate.

Maybe I should restrain my "pen" here, I don't want to sound arrogant, but I just don't get the point of most of this self-proclaimed superior ammunition out there. Premium price for sure, at $2+ a shot, or $1.50+ a shot, both are crazy prices to pay for handgun ammunition without a track record of real, demonstrated combat shooting incidents behind them to prove the claims made and implied.
If the recoil bothers you, consider the equally deadly 38 Special, maybe in the +p configuration. A .357 bullet put right kills just as dead, when it goes 900 fps or 1300. The less amount of recoil will allow for quicker follow up.

When I was young and new to guns I used to think that more is always better. Now that I've read way too much from the people that have studied actual shootings I tend to think more like Geoff.

I have the utmost regard for Cor-Bon...It is accurate, it is well tested, and the Barnes bullet is remarkable with regard to its expansion. That being said, and I keep only Cor-Bon in my personal protection carry guns, I shoot softer reloads in my everyday shooting. I recently found a Registered Magnum and compared it with 2 modern guns, a 27-2, and a Performance Center RM remake (all 3 were 5" guns). All shot well will 11 different loads and the Registered Magnum and the remake PC gun shot the best. Ammo preferred for accuracy is "my load" (14.5gr 2400 under a Montana Gold 125gr HP Bullet) and the 125gr Cor-Bon DPX. Mind you, I shot only 5 shots of each of the commercial loads. The best 25yd group, of all, was my handload in the PC gun, but the original (1935) RM was within a 0.10in. of the the new gun.

There are some premium bullets that are worth the extra coin at the register. Some prime examples would be the Barnes X pistol bullet, Speer Gold Dot, Federal HST, and Winchesters Ranger-T bullet. The technology put into the design of these bullets makes the extra amount paid for them more than worth it to me. These rounds are for concealed carry/self defense. I'm not going to be plinking with them.
