I bought a box of Win. Expert HV .22 LR ammo last week. I just finished firing 48 rounds through a 5 screw K22. The last 6 made a cylinder bore pattern instead of a group and the chambers were so fouled that the rounds were difficult to load and extract. The cylinder also became difficult to rotate and required assistance to index. This revolver is nearly mint and does not do this with any other ammo that I have used with it. A bore brush with Ed's Red took the leading out quickly but I have never seen this kind of leading with a .22.

I have been going through a lot of ups and downs lately with the bulk ammo's. It is kind of like a crap shoot. I have been using it in my 41 with minor problems also in a 10/22 with minor problems. Have not used it in any revolvers yet. But I have 8 or 9 boxes.

Never shoot the non copper plated high velocity ammo through a revolver - it will always lead up. I usually use satndard velocity ammo in my revolvers. If I decide to use some HV ammo then I stick to the Federal HV copper plated bulk pack or CCI MiniMags.

I had not thought of that aspect - HV - in revolvers. I have had chamber throats plug with non-plated ammo but no leading like this before. Granted, I have mostly shot autoloaders. In my part of North Dakota it is 60 plus miles round trip to the nearest source for .22s and these were what was available. I am wheel chair bound for now with a broken leg and am going stir crazy. Shooting from the front room window or the front porch relieves the tension. .22s seemed the right tool for the job.

It is OK to shoot non plated .22's in a revolver. I agree the xperts are cheap ammo. I have shot 1000's of non plated .22's through colt and smith .22's with no problem. I especially like the WW Wildcats. They will not lead up.

A friend of mine has a similar age Smith and had the same problem with Remington standard velocity. He did a thourogh cleaning and did not have the same problem with Fedreral Standard Velocity match ammo, he seemed to think it was a lack of lubrication on the Remington ammo. For what its worth my 17-4 seems to like just about everything I have put in it, although most of it has been standard velocity.
