Hey folks, I’ve got a decent shooter grade plain Jane Winchester 94 AE I’m considering selling to finance another gun purchase. It’s a 30/30, no box, a few scratches and dings in the stock. Something my Dad took in either in a trade, or as a purchase along with some other stuff. (No sentimental value.). I’m in middle Ga.

Wondering what a reasonable asking private sale price might be, and what a gun shop might offer.

Does it have the (ugly) cross-bolt safety? I would think that would affect the value.

A reasonable asking price would be in the $500 range. It's getting hard to find any working 30-30 lever gun for less than that. Selling to a shop may not get get you half that but you may do better in trade value.
Just remember, you ask for more and come down in price. It don't work too well going the other way.

That AE on the model number, is that what they did to designate the wider ejection port for mounting a scope? Mine has a side-mount scope (minus the scope; just mounts!) but even though it's a Sears Ted Williams Model 100, it's a pretty iron-sight-accurate good gun. I always liked the lever guns. Classic! Depending on warts & dents, I'd go $450-$650.

It does look like the slightly cheaper model with the hardwood stock and unhooded front sight blade. If it were in a local shop here, I'd pay $500 for it assuming it's as nice as it appears in the photos.

Is it just me or does the stock look partially cracked off on the wrist where it meets the tang? You have to zoom in and look close but it looks like it to me. Maybe it’s just a bad pic…
If that’s the case I’d say about $400 tops. Otherwise it appears to be a cross bolt safety Ranger model which is one of the less desirable configurations. I’d imagine retail would be $600 or so IF the stock isn’t messed up. It IS still a New Haven made Winchester that is very functional which counts for something….

New Winchester 30-30 are made in Japan& are " creeping up" $900+ price range if not more. cbs may or may not nfluence price stock looks to have a chunk of wood missing @ tang, but you walk into a gun show around here(Mo.) w/ that priced @ $475 itwill be gone before you get in the door. If it were mine I'd put $600 or so on it and go from there. Will a dealer, flipper, scalper, guntrader give that probably not. Also now not the time to sell "deer-gun" Good Luck w/ your sale.

I actually think the stock is made that way, or it cracked at some point and the previous owner cleaned it up. It’s symmetrical on both sides, and rounded over/finished. Perhaps an ill fitted replacement already?

Pre-safety '80s and early '90s AE 1894s are highly desirable on today's market- no "mystery metal " receivers or dumb stamped parts, plus a scope is easily mounted. Pricing them at $400-500 is an expectation similar to the now phantom $200 Model 10.

While that is true, this is a cross bolt safety model, with rebounding hammer, with a very farked up stock. $4-$500 is about all a guy is gonna get out of this particular gun. Go look at what a replacement butt stock costs. That’s just the reality of the current market.
