I just checked out the Winchester SXP Defender...seems well built at first glance and handling. Anyone have pros or cons regarding quality for the $$, reliability issues/concers etc?
Many thanks,

Of all the reviews and blogs I have read, some suggest that the "fixed cylinder choke" might indicate this is a no go for slugs...yet the Winchester site states "This open choke is also very accurate when using Foster-type slugs." I cannot find out exactly to what a fixed cylinder choke refers.
But it does look and feel like a bargain...dual slide bars and all!

Fixed choke means not changeable, cylinder is the type of restriction, of which there is none. This is what is traditional for rifled slugs and also for riot guns with buck shot. Ivan

I have heard a few less than stellar reports about them. But it's been a while and I don't remember why.

I handled one and wasn't too impressed. No where near the quality of the 1300. And I don't think they are made in the US.

I would find an 870. ;)
