New member here solely because of the M&P15-22. I won this at the State Police Conference last week and promptly gave it to my son. After putting about 500 rounds through it, I'm regretting my decision. Now I'm threatening to buy my own.

My son is nine and he is already telling me how he plans to trick it out. I had a spare AFG2 lying around so we mounted that, but he quickly reminded me that it doesn't match.

Now I just need to order a light and mount, a red dot sight, single-point sling, AFG2 (correct color), RVG (ya he wants both), and ......

Clearly I see some overtime in my future.

Welcome aboard & congrats on having a son who is starting a hobby that he will enjoy for life. Kids have a lot competing for their attention, and it isn't all good, including peer pressure. Nice rifle!

Mine went the other way. I made the mistake of letting my grandson (age 8) shoot mine. I've had to buy his one of his own for Christmas so I can have mine back.

I completely agree. Fortunately, this isn't his first rodeo. He has fired more Class 3 weapons than most adults have touched. He's an only child and I plan to keep him focused to prevent poor decision making in later life. It worked for me.

+1. When he is shooting, he isnt out racing cars, chasing chicks and just generally getting into trouble. And he has been taught not to shoot signs and **** like that! Kudos!

Welcome to the forum.

So, you never learned to think things through before making a decision eh?......giving that 15-22 away is a hard lesson to swallow.

When you get yours he'll be teaching you how to shoot it.

BTW, I'd leave him alone with the iron sights for awhile, let him get used to them until they are second nature.....he'll thank you later.
