Does anyone use wood on a 500? I HATE Goodyears and am considering some wood. I just don't know if the human hand can stand anything but cushioned rubber on this beast.

I you do, what do you use and which grip sizes will fit?

Supposedly K frame grips work. I dont imagine would grips on a 500 would be very fun. At all. Under any circumstances.

I had a set of Herrett Jordan Troopers made for me. The factory makes them using a template of your hand.

They were nice grips but I felt like they jammed my wrist significantly. The factory rubber grips are much more comfortable for me.

I sold them to one of the members of this forum, an individual who has several Model 500s. He likes them which is all that matters. Don

Had a set of wood grips on my S&W 460-if you don't shoot it alot in a single outing--you can manage--I used them last year for whitetail hunting, only had to endure when sighting in before the hunt. I don't care for any of the rubber grips--to me it makes a beautiful handgun look cheap. Like putting an expensive suit and cheap shoes. IMO

Here you go. It is not a plesant experience.:(

Here are the grips DonD is talking about. Apparently our hands are similar because I love these grips. They change the axis of my grip and also allow more room for my middle finger. To me they are more comfortable than the factory rubbers and less punishing. 50 rounds in one shooting session was not a problem. I can't speak for anyone else but these really work for me.

I don't know how you guys shoot those things without a bipod and shoulder stock.

They aren't that bad. I had a 629 w/4" barrel that had more snap to the recoil than my 500 w/6" barrel. Pretty soon we'll be able to catalog the recoil of the mighty S&W 500 under "urban myths".
