Worst Recoiling Handgun You Own

Mine would be an M&P 340 with full house Magnums in it. Don't care which ones, they all s**k. I carry .38 SB Gold Dots in it

I used to be more recoil tolerant (especially with rifles) but not any more, so voluntary pain is out along with guns that inflict same. A 629-4 Power Port with full loads was about my limit, tolerable but not fun.

I've scaled back a bit on hand cannons these past few years. Used to be a .44 Super Blackhawk that I'd shoot warm .44 Mag reloads thru, but these days it's prob a 5" 27-2, which really isn't bad but to me it has more felt recoil than my 6.5" 24-3 44 Spl.

A year from now I'd like to be able to say it's a 5" Model 29 (one of the Hill Country Dist 29-3s from 1989).

M&P 340 with .357's. I use to not think it was to terrible until y'all told me it was bad lol. Seriously though, last time at the range it was popping my knuckles and I hadn't experienced that in previous sessions.

My Airweight J frame model 442 is not pleasant to blast more than a box through you feel it later, and my P/C 500 S&W Magnum is a beast also. But you expect it with the 500, and it is almost welcomed in a way.....

It was my 2 5/8" 629 44 mag, until I sold it. Next is my 41/44, a model 58 I converted to 44 mag. It hurts with full mag loads. I have a 3" 41 mag that I have never shot.

The model 38

The model 38 with the factory grips and a heavy load doesn't have quite the recoil of a .44 but the pain factor is about as bad. My son shot it and said, "Ain't no way Mom is going to shoot this thing!" I tried and being a manly man could shoot it fine, but I went ahead and put Hogue grips on it. I wouldn't shoot it for 'fun'.

Oh, honorable mention Llamma III using .380. all metal and feels ok in your hand until you shoot it.

It is a tossup between my 3" 629 and my 640-1 357 mag. 640 comes from S&W with a 2" tube all SS frame.

Same for me, must be a Florida thing. Joe

Ruger LCP. Hate shooting that gun! Works fine, nice in the pocket, on the very rare occasion it is carried. Just hits me in all the wrong places when I hold it, even with the Handall grip.

Distant second, Ruger LCR with some hot 38 Specials. Changing grips helped some. Wife refused to shoot it more than once.

Just so it's not thought that I have Ruger bias, I have 357 Blackhawk that is sweetheart even with full load 158 hunting loads.

My 340pd by far. I'm good for no more than a cylinder full of magnums and I'm not very recoil sensitive. But yet I still carry it most every day.

342PD. I sold it. Much worse than any .44 Mag. I did find a few .357 mag loads uncomfortable in a 2.5" 66 with certain grips.

However, I am not all that recoil tolerant; I didn't like my .416 Rigby until I got the weight up to about 10.5 pounds (with scope and mounts) and used all kind of padding. Even then, it was unwise for my physical condition.

I agree with the above posters who list the 340 PD. With full magnum loads I thought I had actually broken a bone in my hand the first time I shot it. I carry with the Speer 135 gr .357 short barrel gold dots. They are mild by comparison to full house loads.

Best Regards, Les

My 5.25" 44 Mag Redhawk, with the tiny factory wood grips, from nearly 30 years ago. Very heavy gun. Tried a cylinder of Remington 240 Gr SP - my wrist and hand hurt for days after. I thought I'd sprained my wrist. Shot it with 44 specials from that point on (and put Pacmyers on it) - very accurate. I wish I still had it now.

Taurus Titanium 44spl

My favorite recoil beast is a 2" Taurus Titanium with a ported barrel. It sees little use with full loads, but is great fun with sissy loads. My typical load drill is with one or two "9 shot loads followed by killer loads. It is rated for +p's. It carrys like a dream.
