Worst Recoiling Handgun You Own

642 with the 158 gr. FBI load or the old Nyclad 158gr HP equivalent. My .45 Colt old Vaquero with 300 gr. Grizzly hard cast is a popgun by comparison due to the extra weight and grip size. In fact I don't remember the rifle caliber Contenders I used to shoot twisting and turning this much.

In my youthful stupidity I fired a short-barreled H&R 12 gauge single shot one handed with a 3" magnum. Once. At least I can hang onto the 642.

That said, it is still my EDC, but with Gold Dot 135gr SB +P.

Also, the factory grip on the Colt Mark V Lawman snub was comfy when handling but brutal when shooting. Mine re-injured the tissue and nerve damage in the web of my shooting hand. Adios muchacho...

That's strange. My MKIII snub handles .357 mag loads better than my M28s and 19 did. I use the stock wood grips and a Tyler. I knew they changed the profile between the MkIII and MkV; sounds like a change for the worse.

Easy answer for me, the S&W Model 340 PD Airlite when shooting 357. No pleasure to shoot, but I keep in practice. In the event that I need it, I doubt that I will fuss about the recoil.

Worst recoil!

My personal worst experience was with a .44 magnum Thompson/Center Contender with the 14" bull barrel. That tang that hangs down from the trigger guard (for opening the action) would invariably leave several knuckles bleeding! Unfortunately, it was stolen from me many years ago, and I have never really wanted to replace it due to the discomfort! It seemed that no matter how well I tried to hold it, it would still manage to inflict some pain!

Worst recoil and most fun to shoot is my 500 S&W Magnum with a 4" barrel. 700gr T-Rex thumpers are brutal, I can barely make it through 5 rounds. 500gr Hornady XTP's are tolerable, and 300gr Hornady FTX are damn fun to shoot!
