Would like to hear your thoughts...41 Magnum for Police.

I have had and been a fan of the .41 for 40 years or so. The factory loads at the time of it's introduction were not appropriate for police work. If I were doing police work, the load would be something from the factory that duplicated a 220 gr cast swc over 7 or 8 grains of Unique. From a firearm standpoint, it should be the size and weight of a Model 19.

I am not sure if the latter is even possible.

I believe the year was 1972. My home town (a suburb of Camden) was coping with the Camden riots, and someone found an unregistered Thompson in the station basement and let loose on the snipers that were firing on our firemen. At the same time the Philadelphia Inquirer did an expose on our police department entitled "The Cops That Couldn't Shoot Straight" and focused on many of the Department's criminal exploits. This was when they transitioned into the Model 58! A neighbor was a local cop that carried the 58 and constantly complained about the leading ... but he was the one who introduced me to the 41 Magnum.

In my home town, the department issued 41s died off because of the bad press and departmental illegalities that drew the attention of the feds. If I remember correctly, the Model 58s were replaced by HK P7M8s.

I think every Police Car should have at a minimum an M16 type rifle with an optic on it. I think a 1.5x5 with a German Plex zero'd at 100 yards would be good. Or more importantly zero'd, and then with the officer knowing where that bullet would impact at various distances, a few inches high or low, depending on zero.

Kudos on the implementation of the Chicago typewriter.

During the Detroit Riots of '68, the Department issued out Winchester 30-30's they had in storage. Soon Officers were told to bring in what ever long gun they had at home as the Department didn't have enough to go around.

When I shot my new m58 my love for the 41 mag began. I been wanting a 41 mag for decades. I think I loaded the 215gr swc with 7 or 8 grains of unique. My carry rounds were the federal 210gr jhp. I had it on the hip for a few days. For the squad car a street sweeper would be nice.
