Got a chance to buy one of these (new) for a steal of a price.
What do you guys think? Let it pass or pick it up?
30 rds of 22 mag would be fun, but not practical for any application, except the range.

Tell me what you think?

I've had one for several years and I like it a great deal. It's light weight, lots of rounds, and if I follow the instructions for loading the magazines, it has been utterly reliable. As for not being practical, I carry mine all the time when I'm out on the tractor or fixing fence in the pickup. Very effective on ground squirrels although I won't shoot it without hearing protection. I've also used it to teach beginners to shoot. I like the fiber optic sights and it's very accurate.

Admitting up front that I've never handed this particular model, I'd offer this:
I've never been overly impressed with the quality and design of anything that had the Kel-Tec name on it. Their guns all feel cheesy to me. ( My p3at lasted a week before I traded it for nothing in particular.).
I've also never been overly impressed with the reliability and economy of any handgun chambered in .22 mag. .22 mag is expensive and dirty. ( Even my beautiful Model 48 (no dash) would leve me disappointed at the range.)

That said, you mentioned a "steal of a price". IMHO, almost any gun is worth trying if all it costs to satisfy my curiosity is the price of dinner and movie for two. So, as long as your convinced you could get most of your investment back when your lust has subsided, I'd say go for it. ;-)

I have one and I like it (very light, accurate and hold 30 rounds). I had some failure to feed in the first few mags. But after that, it ran great .. no regret on buying. Just wish the ammo is cheaper/easier to find.

I got one at the end of the panic for the reasonable price of $439 BIN. It's one of the coolest guns I've ever shot (not the coolest), never had an issue, have no problem trusting 30rnds in an accurate, low recoil pistol as a bedside gun/woods gun.

It's a love it or hate it gun for sure. I was really active on the Kel-Tec forums when these were announced. I was on a waiting list for 18+ MONTHS to get one and never did. Now I see them all the time and pass. Lots of early teething problems but that's par for the course with Kel-Tecs.

I'm personally convinced the .22 Magnum is a rifle round. It loses too much velocity and is just too loud out of a handgun for me. I have zero use for anything in between .22LR and .38 Special, but that's just me.

You'll either love it or hate it...The biggest drawback is the price of ammo and getting the right ammo. The PMR30 can be a picky eater.

I bought mine 3yrs ago and was also able to pick up tons of ammo when it was a little more reasonable. It's a heckuva lot of fun for plinking and very useful for small varmints. Most will argue that it's not particularly useful for home defense but it will sure keep multiple intruders occupied while I work my way to my AR15.

Over 2000/fps in a handgun isn't enough velocity?

As far as loudness goes I don't see where any caliber larger than the 22mag is quieter.Pop a few rounds of 22mag at an intruder in your house and he'll make a quick exit not waiting around to see what's in your hand.

The PMR-30 will never shoot a .22 Magnum to 2000fps. Not even a hyped up 25 grainer. 4.3" barrel, you'll get 1200fps with most loads. Sorry to burst the bubble.

It's not the loudest handgun cartridge...it's just way too loud for what gets produced at the muzzle.

Your estimated fps is low and on my side there aren't but a few brands of 22mag that even say they are 2000+/fps.There are numerous videos on Youtube where someone tested different brands for velocity.

Depending on what ammo was shot I saw results ranging from middle 1300/fps to 1650+/fps.A Henry 22mag didn't do any better than the best result in the PMR30 so I would say the PMR30 did pretty well even with an average drop of 250/fps under what the rating on the ammo box might say.

Bottom line...I like the PMR30 and you have no use for it.

I got the 1200fps number from 2009/2010 timeframe on the Kel-Tec forums. I got curious and did some research. Looks like Ballistics by the Inch shows you're about right with your 1300-1650 number.

BBTI - Ballistics by the Inch :: Results

Bottom line for me...neat design that I probably would have bought in .22LR, particularly with an extended threaded barrel with the obvious application as a suppressed pistol. But .22 Mag is priced like 9mm (when you can find it) and doesn't fit a niche for me.

I have one..had it for about 2 yrs.. Ammo prices are not cheap..but what is..22 LR..nope..not ant more..if you think it's cool buy it..you can always sell it and turn a profit.. There nice to carry, light weight, 30 rn mag, nice trigger, cool design..fun, fun, fun..I wish the mags were a little more reliable.. I think nut-in-fancy has a YouTube review on them.
