Would you carry a gun with Magguts mag extension?

Magguts makes spring kits that replace the spring in a magazine and add a round to the mag's capacity.

I'm considering getting one for my P238 Sig, but Magguts offers a version for the 9mm Shield and the 380 Bodyguard.

Does anyone here use this product?

Is it reliable?

Would you (or do you) carry it?

No, I wouldn't... I'm not fond of the aftermarket mag extensions. I rather carry an extra mag than to use one of those to only gain an extra round... The P238 mags are small and thin enough for it not to be an issue to carry an extra one.

I'm content with not increasing the probability of failure, and with the 7+1 capacity of both my Shield and PPS M2.

Yes. I bought one for my Shield to increase the 8 to a nine. Works fine.

Then they came out with the +2. I bought two, put them on 8 round mags. They extended the extended mag another 1/4". Worth it. I now carry 10+1 in the gun with a 10 round backup. All three have been 100% reliable (when installed correctly) through many many 100's of rounds.

I am a firm believer in the concept of never being able to carry too much ammo, within reason.

There is a difference between not doing something on principle vs. because of actual lack of performance.

I guess I'm out of the aftermarket loop. I'd never heard of Magguts.

I do have Pearce magazine extensions on all the magazines for my Glock 30SF. No added capacity in those, though, but they improve my grip on the pistol. When I had Glock 42s, I had Pearce +1 extensions on their magazines. They worked just fine.

Appearance-wise, Pearce grips look fine on Glocks (my opinion). They look factory, far as I'm concerned. And since I'm down to only one Glock now, they're here to stay. I get more mags, I'll get more extensions.

I do not like the way any magazine extension looks on any 1911 pistol. No matter if they add one or two rounds to their capacity. I guess I'm a traditionalist...1911 mags should fit flush.

Nope.

Not fond of aftermarket stuff (except stocks) for a gun that is/might be carried in public. I only include stocks because I like VZ panels on my Commander. Just plain, extra-grippy panels - no skulls and crossed-bones. :D

I don't own a single after-market magazine or any similar mag parts.

I should probably expand on this post. While I own a Shield (and many other Smiths) and carried it in the past, I've gone in another direction. I currently carry another maker's subcompact with a 10 round magazine. Since I also believe that more ammo is a good thing, I also carry a spare 15 round factory magazine from that maker's full size model. 10+1+15.

I briefly owned a Glock 43 that had MagGuts spring kit in one magazine and Pearce +1 extensions on two others. All of those mags worked fine. I believe every little bit helps, no contribution is too small.

I think it doesn't hurt to carry a few spare mags either.

NO

I trust the manufacturer's engineers design and don't want to monkey up a magazine (the most prone to failure part of semi auto) all to gain JUST one round.

I'll take reliability over one extra round.

Agreed. The handgun market is saturated. Lots of competition... Having an extra round in the mag would be a huge plus for a manufacturer's standpoint and bottom line. Logic dictates that they designed the mag the way they did with the capacity it uses for a good reason, unless, of course, the manufacturer is a complete idiot... Look how many people are jumping for 6 shot revolvers and 10 + 1 Sig P365 all because they offer 1 or 2 rounds over the competition...

The product seems to work well by report but are somewhat pricey to me.

I see the point of carrying extra magazines also, and I have yet to hear about or read of a private citizen in a self (not business) defense situation ever having to reload. So, for a Shield 9, 7 or 8 +7 (fully loaded with a 6 or 7, plus the 7 round extra) will probably work out the same as 10 + 9.
