Would you want your kids sitting next to this man?

And what's with the long sleeve shirt in Texas in June! My guess is he ordered the blue plate special and stiffs the waitress on the tip!

The guy next to him is wearing a Jean jacket over his shirt!
Must be a chilly morning.

I always fail to understand the previous judging of someone who open carries.

Well, in this thread, I think most of us aren't pre-judging the guy because he's open carrying.

In this case, we're just sorta pokin' at him cause he looks kinda funny to some of us, that's all.

No point turning this into yet another open carry thread.

That horse has been dead so long, it's stinking up the entire Internet.

I worked with a young lady. Her jeans were all worn and torn. I said, "'bout time for some new jeans isn't it?"
She said, "these are new, cost extra to get them like this."
Huh?

Back in the late sixties and early seventies, I could sell my worn out, faded, and torn Levis and Wranglers for twice what I paid for 'em brand new. Take three or four pair down to the local head shop, they'd be sold in a day or two. For real.

I wouldnt be wearing one of those no matter what? the guns I wear would be shooting at least a .45 sized round.

Don't know where you're from, but around these parts, it's considered bad form to make fun of a fella's shootin' iron. :D

This look like a .380 or a 9mm to you, Kid? Looks like some magazines stuffed with big heavy fat .45s to me.

Granted it ain't as purty as my 1911s, but it weighs about half as much and is about half as big, which equates to being easier to carry and conceal. And it holds eleven rounds. Plus, just like that Serpa holster, if something happened to this pistol, I could replace it with one just like it in less than an hour for about five hundred bucks. Some of my 1911s are irreplaceable and priceless to me.

The Blackhawk Serpa is hardly a "piece of garbage", and is certainly better than some of those
*
There are a huge number of LE agencies and trainers that prohibit them and a long list of severe failings. Malfunctioning locking systems (fails to release or fails to hold - both are well documented), the belt loops break under stress, etc.

http://www.lightfighter (dot) net/topic/serpa-blackball-list-sticky. There are several other individual discussions of their flaws on that forum, too.

I use a Safariland 7T OWB holster sometimes for my G17. Works great.

My kids wouldn't have any trouble with it, but they would stare while trying to figure out what make/model it was. There may be snickering later at the table if it's discovered to be a 380.

Tactically, I'd prefer to sit where it bests serves the safety of my family and offers me a clear line of sight. Thanks for wearing your pistol out for all to see, I appreciate the effort and exercise of your rights. I will not be drawing attention to the one on my hip as my responsibility is to protect my family rather than drawing attention to them. Either way, two armed citizens is better than none.

The guy sitting immediately to his left has something large and appears to be heavy in the right pocket of his jacket....Hummmmmmm!
Just sayin'...

Where does a person with a nice hat store the hat while in a restaurant? I haven't saw a place in years that had hat or coat racks but maybe I don't get to town very often. An inquiring mind wants to know. Larry

On the back of the chair, under the chair-or as I do, on my right knee.

Same here but, I aint making fun of it. Just saying it aint my preferred gun to have especially when it comes to having .45 cal wheel guns and G.I. .45s. I guess you can blame my dad for that.:D After all, he carried a G.I. .45 in WWII, and in Korea-carried it and a Carbine. :)

He oughta take his hat off at the table, too. Tsk.

:D

That's not a hat. That's a child's cap.

If a man isn't playing baseball, doing yard work with earmuffs, or carrying out a sniper detail on the SWAT team, he needs to buy & wear a real hat.

Then he'll have something that he should take off when he sits down to eat.

(IMHO, of course).

The original poster must be laughing his hind end right off at the comments he stirred up...lots of great fun for those of us who didn't get too tightly wound up to see the humor in it all. Thanks for making my day!

Pretty funny stuff. Most of you are sitting around in your camo cargo shorts and no shoes. The only reason you've got a clean tee shirt on is because you're married. If your not married it's now 11am, time for the first beer of the day.

I usually wear 5.11 shorts, blue, black or khaki, thank you very much. As for the rest . . .

The Blackhawk Serpa is hardly a "piece of garbage", and is certainly better than some of those toy Kydex holsters in rainbow colors that some people are making in their backyard tool shed and selling to suckers over the Internet or in the booths next to the beef jerky at gun "shows".

I carry a Glock 30S in one daily, and have done so since around October or November of last year. It holds the pistol securely, but as the pistol is drawn, the trigger finger naturally slides across the release tab, allowing the pistol to come smoothly out of the holster. The holster's adjustable for cant and ride height, and has slide loops that are adjustable for belt width. It also comes with a paddle if you like paddle holsters (I don't). It also has the ubiquitous tension screw. When you reholster, it makes a solid "click" to let you know the pistol's fully secured. Blackhawk seems to make a Serpa holster for every revolver and pistol in the known universe, and they sell tons of the things. They're popular with law enforcement for the simple reason that they do hold the pistol securely.

And if you somehow did manage to break the holster, you wouldn't have to wait weeks or months for a replacement. Just go down to the LGS and buy another just like it.

It's a composite holster for a composite pistol, simple as that. Both are utilitarian and both work really well together, and I don't worry about scratching or dinging either one. If I want pretty, I have a fancy floral EPS high ride holster and belt for the Glock, and a fancy floral 2-mag carrier to match. But I don't go to too many barbeques, and if I did, I wouldn't carry the Glock.

Luddite that I am, I used to swear I'd never have a "plastic pistol". Then I swore I'd never have a "plastic holster". Uh-oh. Wrong again.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but don't knock it if you haven't tried it would be my advice.

All I can add to this Serpa review is that over the years, I saw the release tab and associated parts on about three dozen Serpa's fly apart like they'd been hit by a hammer after the shooter merely "naturally slid the trigger finger across the release tab, allowing the pistol to come smoothly out of the holster." After that, it always came smoothly out of the holster, sometimes when you just bent over. Every agency I know of that adopted these poorly designed pieces of garbage now carries something else . . .

I'm absolutely amazed by many of the comments I've seen on this
thread. I would have expected better from S&W forum members but..
...oh well. Gentlemen and hats in resturants??? Huh??? Looks like a
pretty plain little diner to me. The only people who are upset about
his open carry are various forum members. The other people in the
diner don't seem too stressed about it. Maybe he's a well known LEO
in a small burg on his day off that stopped in for a quick bite. His
clothes? Maybe on his day off he is mowing or cleaning out the garage
or doing some other chore. Not exactly dress-up activities. After
reading some of the comments on here I would sit next to the guy in
the pic before I would sit next to some of the posters on this thread.
