WOW! S&W 745 IPSC Model for 3K

Yep true, but why would a super versed well established "collector" pay that kind of money for a "challenged" example.
I think you are looking for logic when, by definition, there is no logic in a bidding war gone full crazy. :o

I'll offer one more possibility. The seller called out the serial number. I believe it was DVC2550. I could see "2550" being someone's fave number. Some collector build collections of same- or like- numbered guns. I'd bet a nickel that is part of what happened here.

Ok I like the favorite number explanation. But if either or both of these bidders are collectors which the favorite number theory would be part of; wouldn't they have heard of gunsamerica or even just a google search brought up this exact gun for sale at $925? Ok I just talked myself into the crazy bidding war theory.

About a year ago, I sold a Model 745 on here. It was almost new, a little over 200 rounds through it, box, papers and 4 S&W mags, all in the wax paper. It did not have the wood grips or the billboard. It took awhile to sell it, and I sold it for $700.00. Guess I should have waited a year. Mikey

I had a friend buy a very nice regular 98+, 745 box docs in great shape $600. just last weekend at a local gun show. It could be easy for someone or a couple someones to confuse a 745 with a PC pistol if they didn't know better. Who knows Ive seen used 686s go for 1500 before crazy. How about the current prices for 4" 17-5s and 617s early underlugged models going for almost 3 grand, more than doubling the price in just a few months. Who knows......

Mike,

That was me that bought your 745. I thought it was a nice looker for a great price, I really appreciated getting it. Thank you again!

Never have liked the extra marking on the slide, for the IPSC commemorative. More a plain Jane fan, I guess.
