I had a "date" for myself today, and treated myself to a concert by Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives over at the American Music Theater in Lancaster, PA. I have been watching the reruns of their TV show on RFD-TV and when I saw they were coming to Lancaster I jumped at the chance. They really rocked the joint with classic country, old rock and roll surfing instrumentals, and country rock for an hour and a half straight. Each of the Superlatives was showcased, particularly with their version of "Wipe Out" by the Surfaris, where the stand up bass player did the guitar licks and the drummer did the traditional drum solo by hitting his cheeks with his mouth open. The biggest crowd reaction was probably when they played "Six Days on the Road" by Dave Dudley (the truck drivers national anthem) according to Marty Stuart) and "El Paso" by Marty Robbins (Marty Stuart said he was named after Marty Robbins). It was a great show and I'm glad I decided to let the moths fly out of my wallet and buy a ticket to the show.
And to finish the event for the day I had supper at the Round-the-Clock Diner in York, PA.
And now I already have my ticket for the upcoming Herman's Hermits concert there. I was an oldies disk jockey 50 years ago in my misspent youth.
