A few years back, I mounted a Burris FastFire lll holographic sight on a mil spec RIA .45 1911 pistol. It about doubled my accuracy with this pistol, and showed me my eyes are not getting any younger.
Anyway, I have had a hankering for another optics sighted 1911, and recently picked up a Kimber Aegis Elite Pro with the factory mounted Vortex Viper holo sight.
This is a nice pistol, very well fit and finished. Commander length, bull barrel, steel frame, and a round butt. Trigger breaks at about 4.5 lbs, and crisp, just like I like it on a possible carry gun.
The factory "tall" sights co-witness thru the optic. At 25 yards, from a solid rest, I was getting large, one ragged hole groups firing 200 grain SWC's at about 775fps. WW White Box 230 FMJ's were doing about 1 1/2 inches for 8 shot groups. No malfunctions. I believe it will be a keeper.
I have used optics on handguns in the past, mostly red dots for deer hunting, and scopes for small game, but I have always been primarily an iron sight shooter. I think that is going to start changing, as I adapt more and more of my handguns for optics use. The improvement in my shooting ability with optics and ageing eyes is too great to ignore.
Posted a few pics of the new Kimber, along with a new model 69 I also picked up last week (It shoots great as well, but is a handful with full power loads). Had a early model 28, and a Colt Lawman with me today as well.
