Way back when I was really into M1 Garand's I had the "old style" (hinged) ME/TE gauge and it was wonderful to take on buying excursions, photography, club meets, range sessions, etc. Then I loaned it and it never came back.
I am now down to one Garand and it has not been shot (I am led to believe) since January 1966 when it was arsenal overhauled (Red River Army Depot) and never issued. For sure it is probably a CMP rifle, but I figured the $25 to have the CMP search (and maybe find nothing) would be better spent on a decent ME/TE gauge.
Alas.....the usual sources on line (Brownells, Ammo Garand, Garandman, CMP, etc.) are basically all ME gauges and the T/E separate gauge is horribly expensive for what it is in my opinion.
If any of you Garand fans have the old style you wish to sell, please PM me with details and price. Alternatively if you have one and wish to loan it to me so I can measure and photograph, I'll certainly pay postage both ways and include a "rental fee".
My days of prone position and 300 yard targets are pretty much over, so my IHC Postage Stamp (1953) with all National Match sights and original IHC trigger group, arsenal overhauled w/ SA barrel dated 8/65 will probably be sold sometime in 2021 and I would dearly love to photographically prove the ME/TE on the rifle before listing.
PM me here on the Forum, or e-mail [email protected]
Thanks for looking
