Question for M1 Garand collectors/shooters/fans

IIRC, those mid '60s SA replacement barrels are very popular because of the tight tolerances on MW and TE. I have a couple of them in the safe still in the original wrap and a barreled receiver with one. All purchased from the CMP a while back.

I have a friend who has done the same thing. He bought a couple of replacement barrels, bolts and anything else CMP offered at the time. He has over 20 Garand's in his vault.

M1 FURNITURE

If your M1 came from CMP with new dull brown stock and you want your M1 GARAND to have beautiful furniture, sand it down with double aught sand paper and then coat with TUNG OIL.
let dry for 24 hours. Sand again with double aught. Repeat this procedure 6 times over 6 days. then last day finish with emery cloth. The wood will lighten up, grain will jump out and look 2" deep. Sorry I cannot send picture of mine because I am just to busy this week and M1 is at back of deep safe.
You will be amazed at change in appearance.
