WTK date of manufacture

Hello all

I recently purchased these Smith's and would like to know when they were made.
First is a five screw Highway Patrolman #S1272xx
The other is a model 18 #18K 55XX
Both of them are in excellent condition.

On the Highway Patrolman it could be one of two dates. If the s/n is S1272XX it is circa 1955 . . . an early one and very likely a 5-screw. If the s/n is N1272XX it is circa 1973.

On the Model 18 it looks like 1977.

I had to go look at it again, it does have a "S" before the # Wow I knew it was a keeper when I bought it, now I love it even more. Where can I find serial# date info?

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd edition is a good reference source and has an appendix with serial number dates.

Let us see pictures if you're able.
