WTK why my factory N frame grips have the cut out on the right side

These are factory smooth target grips with matching grain. On the left side is the football cutout, on the right side is the complete cutout. These are factory and have not been modified. Is there some reason for this or did the factory somehow screw up ?

Presentation grips, cut so they didn't obscure whatever was put on the side of the gun.
