1965 Colt Python 6" - Collectors Grade
As I write this, I'm seriously regretting selling this. Had some medical issues and haven't worked for awhile. Looking for work now, but need money to pay the rest of my property tax. Anyway..about the gun..
I bought this from the second owner. First owner fired exactly 6 rounds and second owner fired 20 rounds for a total of 26 rounds total fired. I have digital documentation of these statements that will go to the buyer.
The only flaw is a thumbprint size area just below the cylinder release. I have not addressed this, but I believe if you soaked some oil it may look better? I'm not trying to cover it up and fool anyone, it's there and I'll show it clearly.
The box is not original to the gun and is a 1966 style. The 1965 box would just be green inside and I believe did not have the carboard holder. This box is much nicer and includes the hang tag and all the original paperwork. The PO stenciled the serial numbers on the bottom of the box in a style similar to an original box.
I WAS TOLD THE BOX IS NOS. OTHERS FEEL ITS A REPRODUCTION. YOU ARE BUYING THE GUN. The new repop boxes are $300. All I can do is offer the interested party all the information that I have from *** stating where the box came from years ago.
He also bought the cylinder protector (the red plastic piece). When I originally was inspecting the gun for purchase, he showed me that he pulls the hammer back a little before opening the cylinder. There is barely any line on the cylinder. The bluing is perfect with the exception the spot I noted earlier. I have rarely handled the gun, it's a safe queen.
I ordered the Colt Letter. It revealed some very interesting information. This gun was shipped to New Jersey and P.J. O'Hare. He owned a gun store that opened in the early 1900s till the 1980s when it closed. He was also an avid competition shooter. I have not figured out if guns shipped to his store had these type letters or if this was shipped directly to him? I asked Colt, but they never responded.
1964 to 65 was the year that Colt was transitioning from hand work to machine work. About halfway through the year they were installing machines to do the work that employees did by hand. Because of this, the manufacturing numbers for 1965 are less than previous or following years. This gun was manufactured fairly early in the year..in the first 2300 of all guns made that year.
