I am selling a decent example of an antique S&W 44 DA revolver chambered in 44 Russian. It has some cosmetic and mechanical issues as described but is overall a solid gun that should make a good shooter. The finish is a smooth mottled brownish patina, possibly enhanced with cold blue or something similar, but not heavily buffed. There is no significant rust or corrosion on the exterior. The bore is above average for a blackpowder era gun, with noticeable erosion and light pitting but no heavy damage. It appears the front sight and possibly the grips were replaced at some point. The walnut grips fit nicely and have some symbols stamped on the rear that do not appear to be a matching serial number. Not sure if they are aftermarket or from a different model S&W. Mechanically, the barrel/frame lockup and hinge are very tight and the ejector works properly. The action timing and lockup are also good in single action and slow double action. However, the action needs some attention in fast DA fire, as the cylinder will sometimes spin past the stop and fail to lock up properly. Nothing internally appears to be broken, but I haven't investigated beyond a good cleaning. All serial numbers match, and it's a pre-1898 antique, so no FFL required in most states (know your local laws!). Asking $950 shipped. PayPal Friends & Family or USPS MO preferred for payment.
