I'm not an expert, but did buy two of these. Most, including myself, don't like the hip grip. That's an easy fix.
Other than that, I find them to be an excellent PC j-frame snub.

I just picked one up last week for a very reasonable $367 new. For the money I just couldn't pass it by. My initial impression was very favorable, the trigger action was fantastic, I even liked the clip grip for carry. Interestingly the cylinder came cut for moon clips, a feature S&W doesnt advertise. I dont really care for the Gunsmoke logo. Unfortunately it came from the factory with a tool mark on the muzzle and it is currently on its way to the factory for a new barrel. I requested one without the logo. We shall see.

In my opinion, the Deep carry is an outstanding value. The trigger has been smoothed over from the factory,and compared to the cost of a regular 642 , it's a good deal. The logo on it is a little overboard, but it's a good gun overall.
