A couple of years ago my to adult sons and I were on a prairie dog hunting trip in Wyoming. We stayed in a small ranch town motel and ate breakfast every day at the local café. My sons pointed out to me that there were several people open carrying in the café. Oldest son pointed out to me that OC in Wyoming is allowed. I had brought along 2 model 19's and holsters on the trip. The boys (men) wore them for the rest of the trip and nobody noticed. I asked them why they wanted to do that and they replied "just enjoying the freedom". I smiled. I love Wyoming.

We have had constitutional carry since last July. Though legal, I have yet to see anyone carrying openly.

Yeah Boy,

I visit the Cowboy State from time to time and find it most refreshing.

I think maybe I'm due a trip purty soon my own self.

It's good to see folks carrying in a responsible manner.

For open carry is not a sin...It's an inalienable right.

And should to be recognized and regarded as such.

I'm fine with open carry in the situation you describe. The other side of the story is the person in Cheyenne who carries his AR to the downtown Starbucks every morning. I support his right to do so. I disagree with the fact that he does. It frightens the sheep, wastes police time on "man with a gun" calls, and I don't believe it advances the cause of protecting our Second Amendment rights.

I'm not trying to start an argument about open carry as I have heard both sides ad nauseum.

NC is an open carry state but lived here for years and other than in the woods hunting have yet to see it done . I will not OC . Don't want to draw attention to my self or scare the sheeple .

Starbucks is a dangerous place. It always just one botched half skim grande latte enema away from a riot.

No one seems to care or notice guns here. Though I do not see it that often.

This is the part of Wyoming that tried to secede from the rest of Wyoming, feeling way back in the 30s that the rest of the state was too liberal and progressive. It is still a sore spot that cattle rustlers are no longer hanged.

If the police see you in your yard with an openly carried gun, they just wave.

I saw a guy who looked to be about a hundred buying a new black nylon belt holster for his .40 Sigma the other day. Now that bothered my sense of order, as it just seemed incongruous.

Was it WYO? He's been known to wander around up there from time to time.;):D

We have open carry in Montana as well...don't see it often other than during hunting season.
Nobody seems to pay any attention to it..........

New Mexico

Open carry has never been outlawed in New Mex, you car is even private, the same as your home. I still carry discreetly, a small Threeperson holding a three inch barrel lugged 357 Model 60 with combat grips on my Pants. It does not stand out but is still ready without being the first thing the pilgrim sees.

At 100 yrs. old his mind may be a little off so a plastic gun and a cloth holster may make sense to him. Up until the last few years he probably had an Ivory stocked .44 or .45 in a floral tooled leather holster. :D:rolleyes: Larry

Maybe, maybe not.
I am after all a trained observer.

I used to hunt out of Rawlins WO..... made some friends there. If I was to leave Texas... Wyoming is the only other state I would consider.

Iowa is open carry, though this not commonly known. Handgunlaw.us advises to be careful in instances because of the way the law is written. There have been several recent events involving open carry that has had several cities considering banning firearms in their government buildings etc. So far the banning does not appear to have gained any traction.
The one instance I am most familar with an individual open carried into the public library. This upset the library staff, several mothers with small children, in the library etc. The City council was considering putting it on the agenda for discussion. The meeting was overwhelming attended. The open carry participants were very vocal, a lot of accusations were made etc. The council took no action in any direction for some procedural reasons, which upset the pro folks.
What amazed me was talking to the city clerk, and her description of multiple calls she received. Lets say that if a forum member used the language the callers did, they would be visited by the gorilla and told not to come back.
Several of the council members have CCW, and are progun. Even they were amazed at the progun responses at the meeting and the negative way they came across trying to make a point.
Too bad Iowa doesn't have the history Wyoming does! Of course the area I am in is a liberal island in a sea of corn, with a lot of liberal higher education types floating around.
Old well, next spring back to the Hills with the horses for some fresh air with a pine scent!
Per Handgunlaw.us:
Places Off-Limits Even With a Permit/License
Note: Some Cities and Counties are passing ordinances stating their property is off limits. They will
post signs. The Iowa Attorney General in Opinion No. 03-4-1 stated:
….narrowly and find that the statute does not interfere with the authority of a city to exercise its home rule
power to place restrictions upon the possession of weapons which apply only to buildings owned or directly
controlled by the city….
If City/County Property is posted you can be arrested and be the test case. RKBA groups are working
to get proper legislation to void this AG Opinion. Until then I would not carry on any City/County posted property

Why? Because he looked 100 years old?

Plastic pistol, nylon holster, seems like a very compatible combination to me :)

Just like leather, blued steel, and wood go together.

No slam on plastic - I own some including one S&W.
