Hello to all

I know a few of you fellas are from there!

So here is what this post is all about. I may have a chance, job opportunity to move around the Pinedale area. I have never been to the state, so if any of you fellow forum members could give me some + and - of this area that would be much appreciated. I have lived in Indiana or Illinois all my live long. This would be my last move and would retire there so let me know what ya think.

Thanks
RB

I wish I could help but all I know is my Wife loves their tourism commercials. I think that's Robert Duvall narrating.

It's a wonder place....

It's a wonderful place to visit but i don't think I could live there. The place looked just like it did in picture post cards, but it's too much of the same thing until you get into the mountains, then you get a little variety. Even Cheyenne looks like a small low built city. I can see why people would like to live there, but it's not for me.

PS I"m very biased because I'm from the south and that would be a huge change for me.

Well, Jackson could be nice for a multi millionaire. When winter hits and you get sick of skiing you could go to your cabin in San Clemente for the next nine months.

Pinedale is a very pretty area - a bit expensive because of the summer homes, etc. A bit colder in winter than some other parts (it is all relative).
Small town but good people. Their Ace Hardware store sells guns (and fishing stuff, too).
No state income tax, no sales tax on food; gasoline is reasonable (current Gov just added 10 cents to help pay for state roads.)
Wyoming is a Constitutional Carry state after 6 months residency.
You have to live here for one year to obtain resident game licenses (and they do check it).
I live in the NW corner of Wyoming; near East gate to Yellowstone.

Any specific questions? Would be glad to answer if I can.........

I live in Colorado (the Wy guys call us 'greenies') but if I had the choice of leaving IL to move to WY I would be on the road as soon as I could get to my pickup. If I could convince my better half I would be moving to WY today.

Thanks wyo-man

Am sure there will be more questions as I think of them. This is a good start. Read off what you posted to my wife the cold part well we are just south of Chicago last winter was a deep freeze.

Thanks

Keep in mind that you will be at around 7,000 feet. But it is a dry cold (and heat) so it is bearable. I have lived in Wyoming for over 35 years and it hasn't driven me away. Some people only live here for a year (or their first winter) and decide this isn't for them-but the wide open spaces, low crime, few people, and freedoms make it worthwhile to us.

Have lived in Wyoming for close to 40 years. Hunted elk around Pinedale. A very nice small town.
The population of Wyoming just recently went over a half million. I think that I have seen that many people on just the B concourse at Ohare when I have traveled thru.

In my opinion, Wyoming is a nice place to be. A lot of hunting opportunities, Good gun laws, And if you have kids, it is a good place to raise kids.
Like Jinx said, not too many people. I like that.
I think Wyo-man covered it pretty well.

Have good friend who has lived in Jackson all his life. His parents were some of the originals there.

Have lived in MT and would go back to MT or WY in a heartbeat if the wife would agree.

Some of the absolute best people in the world. They will look you right in the eye and tell you exactly where to go and how to get there.

They will not gossip and talk about you behind your back.

Wonderful place...start packing and make the move.

You will love it.

Good Luck, Good Hunting, Good Skliing, Good Life in WY.

PS: You can put on enought clothes to stay warm but you cannot always take off enough to stay cool. Make the move.

I do a lot of business there and would have no qualms about living there. About the only drawbacks are the wind and cold. If you can tolerate them then go for it. Great state for outdoor activities and very pro gun.

I moved here from Los Angeles 21 years ago and haven't regretted it yet. I was born and raised in Southern California and enjoyed the weather there. The winters can get cold here and it is windy on this side of the state but I would never move back. (We are thinking of retiring to the Tulsa Oklahoma area as we have some good friends there.) You will thouroughly enjoy it here!!

The Wind River Range is awesome. Lots of lakes in the mountains. Awesome area for horse riding, hunting, fishing, backpacking, mountaineering, and skiing. Get to know the locals. It's a remote area, and people are independent, but friendly. I think one of the bigger mistakes outside area folks make when they move into a small western town like Pinedale is that they assume they will find the same amenities that were present in their previous area. Shopping and other services are less handy than in heavily populated areas. I'd suggest you pay a visit to Pinedale before you move there. Check it out in person, and it wouldn't hurt to take the family along.

About the only problem with Pinedale is the billionaires are crowding out the millionaires out of Jackson Hole, and they are moving to Pinedale.

Great country but as others have said, It do get cold there.

Bummer! Pinedale got "discovered." Figures.
