Are there any X-frame grips available other than the Hogue monogrip?

Would I want to shoot my 500 Magnum with alternative grips?

I haven't shot it yet, but I'm not that recoil sensitive.

The X-frame shares the same size grip frame as the K- and L-frame guns. Any grips that will fit K/L-frame guns should fit the X-frame.

The X-frame Hogue monogrips fit the K, L, N, X, & Z frames. I am not sure which - if any - of those grip frame sized grips would retrofit to the X-frame gripframe. Also, from my early recoil tests with open back grips, both wood and OEM rubber, on my 629's with real .44 Magnums, that S&W/Hogue .500 Magnum grip is worth it's weight in gold. It pads the backstrap - a benefit in .44 Magnum shooting - seemingly a requirement for the .500 Magnum.

As noted, the K and L round butt grip frame is identical to the X frame, so any grip for these 2 frame sizes will fit perfectly. However, in terms of shooting a 500 Magnum with anything except that monogrip, you may find there is a limit to "not being recoil sensitive". If you are thinking about prettying that 500 up with some nice wood, I'd suggest you hang on to that monogrip just in case.

Personally my personal limit is with 357 Magnums and now have the 500 monogrip mounted on my 620, 610, and 625. I've found it fits my hand perfectly and it has enough "give" to fit perfectly on the N frame which is the odd man out amoung the larger S&W round butt grip frames.

I use the X-frame on my 629. Soaks up the recoil, fills out the hand nicely...and also increases the LOP due to the extra material over the backstrap which I really like about them as well.

Dunno what else is available and I don't consider myself recoil shy but the X-frame grips do work and also definetly make a difference on the 329 if shooting real .44 mags.

Might I suggest that you drive your "BIG SMITH" before you go to modify it;). No matter what you decide; you're gonna have a BLAST!!!!:D

I fitted the X-frame Hogue on my 625-2 with no mods; only judicious hand adjustment as the stirrup screw was tightened
